This just slays me. Everything that holds water around here is full to the top, except Lake o' the pines. Farm ponds are running over their banks, bar ditches are full, and cypress creek is as high as I've ever seen it. We had torrential rains this past weekend, and have been getting a steady supply of rain for awhile now, but they refuse to let pines keep any water.
I hope whomever makes the decisions for the C.O.E. falls face-first into a blender.
Done venting.

Corps of Engineers = Epic Fail.
Don't get me started on the lunacy of that group. They are as backwards as it gets. But what do you expect...they are a government agency who thrives in spite of the boneheaded decisions they make.

The Army Corp of Engineers? Running a quarter of hydro-electric facilities? Designing and building most of the US and some of the Allied military facilities around the world? Really?

The Corps of Engineers is just like any big government organization. They make good decisions and bad decisions. But I agree with JAGG. The good far outweighs the bad.
Have you talked with the commander in your area to see why the lake is low? They may need to hold the capacity in reserve to protect someone from flooding later in the rainy season.

The same Corp of Engineers who designed and built the levees that were supposed to protect New Orleans from a hurricane the size of Ike?

I hope whomever makes the decisions for the C.O.E. falls face-first into a blender. They frustrate me also at times, but that was a bit harsh don't you think.

I totally agree with Jeff Watts, and I bet he doesn't really wish that the said person to actually lose his or her footing within reach of a blender. I think he was just trying to make a point

Why did the corp build Lake of the Pines? Was it built with flood control as the major consideration or for fishermen?

Why did the corp build Lake of the Pines? Was it built with flood control as the major consideration or for fishermen? Flood control was probably the primary consideration. Behind money. The C.O.E will dam any moving water to justify their existence. These lakes they build are a cash cow for the C.O.E., the contractors, and the politicians who stump for the construction of the lakes. That's just one side of it though. They do build some very nice parks.

Lakes are here to hold water for consumption, not for recreation. They have to release water to down stream lakes. Just part of it. I like to fish as much as anyone. Call them and ask.
Yes I did admit defeat. Good job back to back champion

The COE does a heck of a better job of managing lakes than LCRA. There are probably some things in the planning of this that the public doesn't see and they build the dams/lakes for a specific purpose. Unlike LCRA, the COE doesn't see a financial benefit to what they do, it's just another military job to them. The other thing is the availability of water. If it ain't there, it ain't there. They work with what they have. I did find out that in Arkansas, the COE manages the lakes and they work with the parks department to maintain the lakes at a specific level in support of their busy tourist season, and that got my attention. Good luck with that happening here with LCRA or TPWD. it's all a money grab with them.

Well with the sale of water rights to other private entities I agree it will get worse?
