those are nice, how much money in equipment does it take for making your own molds?

depends on the mold, how many cavities and how extensive you want. A standard 6 cavity 5.25" senko mold is around $100 I believe. No other tools required other than a microwave.

a senko mold is not hard to do. A custom multi color hand poured worm or swimbait is difficult. A single color senko is as easy as melt the plastic (don't burn it), stir it where there are no air bubbles, pour evenly into the mold so that you don't create air pockets and then open the mold and release them. The hard part is ensure consistant temp. Too hot and it leaves indentions in the bait as it cools....too cold and it won't pour consistant......not mixed properly and your salt and/or flake won't be even.

I'm not really the expert to be asking since I'm not a custom bait pourer......I simply just save all my old plastics and re-melt them to make sticks because sticks are easy and cost effective. I prob have 15lbs of used plastics in the garage I need to melt.

AND.....if you do it, you need to wear protective gear. Hot plastic will cause severe burns if spilled on your skin. If it gets in your eyes you could go blind. Also the fumes are pretty toxic so do it in a well ventilated area. Also I don't recommend melting power worms in your wife's microwave......that smell will linger in the house for days!! smile

Here is a forum you might want to go read up on for making baits: http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/

When I bought a Cool Foot for my trolling motor pedal the company owner sent me a bottle of "Mend It" to try. This stuff is awsome! Haven't thrown a plastic bait away in five trips.
