Decided to go to Benbrook to troubleshoot my fish finder. Figured I could test and be off the water before the rain hit. Threw in a couple of rigs just in case - glad I did.

Got into the water about 8:30. As I was running to a spot, I noticed a bunch of birds circling. So I ran over to them, dropped trolling motor and started fishing. Had a hit first cast - broke the line. Threw a slab and fly on my new Lightning rod and went back to it. Put five hybrids in the boat, lost three more. Couple of breakoffs and one just jumped out of the net. I swear that is the truth - he threw the hook and launched himself out of the net! All of the hybrids hit the fly, none on slabs. When the hybrids slowed down, the sand bass started. Caught about 20 before the bite died down. Most of the sandies hit fly also.

Fished that one spot for about an hour, then the birds moved out. Found some sandies stacked up and caught a few more - had to work for them.

Moved around the lake and marked a lot of fish but the bite had died. There were two other boats there and they said they were seeing the same thing. About 11, rain started, heard thunder and spotted lightning in the distance, so decided it was time to return to dry land.

Fun morning and a lot more catching than I was expecting in BB.

Hey, I know that spot. banana

Richard,

all kidding aside, im glad you got into them. Sounds like you did have a good morning. I was pondering last night about going this morning. Opted to stay home and spend quality time and go shopping with the wife........Wait for it..........wait........My wife shopping sprees consist of BassPro,Cabelas, and Academy. ( Did i mention that i LOVE my wife?)

OK back to the original subject.... Congrats on the BB hybrids, you of all people deserve a good day on benbrook. It will humble you rather quickly, Looks like you had them dialed in this morning.

Keep it up, I will not be out this week, Again my wife made us vacation plans.....Wait for it....Spending 4 days on the big pond up north (Texoma)

I heard people talking about the birds, this is the first time I've gotten into them. It's great.
This was just outside the cove from Benbrook Marina. I didn't really expect to fish. I was just planning on troubleshooting before the weather turned. Need to send some screenshots to Humminbird.

You had better be very nice to your wife - you don't find many like that!

Thanks for the encouragement - and all of the advice and help. I hope I've turned a corner.

Hope ya'll do well on Texama. I'm going to Tawakoni next Saturday - going for hybrids and stripers.

Way to go Richard!!! Looks like we will need our rainsuits next weekend but at least it is not going to be cold. Your freezer must be getting full by the way you have been slaying them in the last 2 weeks! Any luck with the fishfinder?
