 Can my unit be upgraded

I received a new Humminbird 581i for Christmas but it doesn't except the Lakemaster Chip (Non Color) Does anyone know if my unit could be upgraded to a 597? I contacted humminbird support but it takes forever to hear from them.

You cannot update hardware. Like the color screen you would have to have sell your unit and buy a new color screen like the 597.

Can a bird 587ci be upgraded? The humminbird.com gives me an upgrade but I can't get the unit to pick up the SD card when it starts up? Is there a different approach then the newer models?

Yes, if you got unit upgrade software in your Humminbird account.
You may have downloaded a corrupt file. Delete that download and do it again to a blank, formatted, SanDisk card.
