Using a telescoping lure retriever has worked in the past. Right, Dan?
Someone should come up with a telescoping knife on a stick...for just such emergencies. They did a long time ago its called a spear.

but no, i never buy a mexican license. i own the lake Negative. Talk to Charlie Haralson or Fouzman they will both tell you I own the Salado. only when i'm not there, chump. Can't believe you guys are fighting over the dinks that live in that creek! You can have it and the Rio Grande north of the Valeno.

Dan, you can't see where the gill nets are so if you cross one, it get's around your prop and you're screwed unless you can remove it. That can only be done by cutting it out. You have to stand in shallow water to work on the prop from the rear. I got naked so I would have dry clothes to put on after the net was removed. Comprende? Trim your prop out of the water while you're fishing over there... Or Keep your boat in gear when you shut it off so the prop won't spin. Makes getting the net out much easier.

The mexican game warden has been gone for at least 6 months. She got reassigned to Cancun since she was abusing her authority and they couldn't fire her. Anyway, there is nobody checking so far anymore. BUT do get your liscence because if you get caught, you will have a lot to loose.

Good "in-yo-face" nonetheless

Never been checked and wouldnt ever want to without being able to produce a current Mexican licence if I were told to. Also, you dont need to be on the Mexican side to have problems with gill nets while boating at Falcon. A friend and I were fishing a bay on the US side up the river yesterday and watched three gill netters check 2 lines well into the back of the bay. When an enforcement boat came up the river they ran on plane to a place protected from sight of the opening into the river until the boat passed and then continued to harvest fish as quickly as they could and left. This happens all the time!

I'm saving that $50/yr from now on. I've caught gill nets in my big prop twice now. Just a couple of weeks ago. I had to back my boat into shallow water, get naked (I was alone) and get in the water and cut that net loose. I was afraid I'd drop my only knife and afraid of mad fishermen if I got caught. Think I fish US water only now. They sneak over and put them on the U.S. side also.

I take it no one has ever been asked to show a Mex license after 1500 looks. Why does anyone buy these things?

37 years ago, when I first started fishing Amistad, the Mexican fishing license used to cost $.25 I've bought one every time I've been there because I didn't want to take the chance on losing my fishing gear, which they can take if they want to! They can also take your boat and put you on the bank if they so desire when they catch you without a license. I've never been checked on the Mexican side and have waved at the lady game warden in the past. Just not worth the chance to not buy one.
