How is the bank fishing? Any Cats/reds being caught from the bank? Does it still get crowded bank-fishing on the weekends?

Sounds like it's time to get out there. But my boat is down right now. I have a 2-seater 10ft bass buggy(pelican)with a trolling motor though. I guess that would probably be a little foolish on the lake?

Nice reports.

Cats ye it's pretty good through bank ....For reds still might take a month before it starts picking up good . People were even catching some stripers last week . It's spring break weekends so yes it might get pretty crowded.

Launch that bass buggy down by the dam at Calaveras at the kayak launch and fish within a long cast of the rocks out to about the 3rd and 4th light pole or go all the way across the front of the dam and fish the shallow coves on the opposite side which is good for cats and reds.

Crossing in front of the dam within 50 to 60 yards out, will keep you pretty much out of the south east wind, but would be dangerous with a north wind so be careful. Keep an eye on the weather!

Thanks for the info Jimbo. I may try that. I even have a 12ft pelican kayak that may work better. But then, the yak is a one seater and I'd have to leave my girlfriend on the bank.

What I really need to do is stop being lazy and making excuses; and get my boat back in the water.

I have a little 14ft jon boat. My 15hp motor hasn't run in 2+ years. I need to get it serviced. When the wind gets up at Cali it get scary on the lake in that jon boat. Otherwise that boat works pretty good there. I usually take my jon boat out to "the wall" and fish there.

I have yet to catch a "keeper" Red fish at Cali, from a boat or the bank. It's time for me to get out there and try again.

I appreciate the info.

Nice. man, I gotta get out there. This rainy cold weather has put a damper on my fishing. I guess I need to buy some nice warm rain gear and get going.

I'd save the money and not spend it on warm rain gear since all you gotta do is wait a day or two.

Remember this is south Texas! Those 100+ temps and dry weather will be here in the blink of an eye!

Enjoy the cold and wet weather as long as you can!

Nice boat/s!

From Bass Pro Shops? I've seen them there. I almost bought one from there but decided to buy a travel trailer RV instead. I think I should have bought the boat. I have a yak, bass buggy, and a jon boat. I might need to trade them all in for one like you guys have.

I bet that place was crazy crowded during spring break? Any good fish caught? From the bank or from the boat?

My story:
I was bank fishing for white bass at the Yegua Creek at lake sommerville yesterday. I was using and ultra-lite rod and reel w/6lb test line. I was fishing with roadrunner lures and hooked into a 8lb blue cat. Talk about a good fight. It took me about 20 minutes to tire him out and get him to the edge of the creek bank.

But then, I realized the bank was too high and steep so I couldn't just winch him up and out of the water without breaking my line. So, I had to climb down to the water to grab him. So down i went. I grabbed him by the mouth and... Ouch... he grabbed me back. over and over. LOL Then with the fish in one hand and my rod in the other, I had to climb up tree roots to get out and back up on the bank.

The bank was muddy and slippery. by the time I was done, I was all muddy, and my feet/boots were wet. But I got him out. It was a heck of a fight all the way around. I managed another 12 whites & 2 huge crappies the rest of the day.

Don't get me wrong... catching alot of whites and crappie is fun, but the fight and pull of a big catfish is awesome.

I am ready to catch some good sized reds or blues. 25 blues like the one I caught yesterday would be nice in my freezer.

I've caught bull reds at Port A & Corpus but not at Cali. So, I can only imagine they fight the same...

Hard!

Rip some Lips!
