The spool tension on my curado 50e went out. I checked it and everything looks normal. The spring looks good. The knob is not stripped. Any ideas on what could be causing this? The reel is working great but i cant control my spool. I can tighten it all the way down and my spool is still loose.

The little brass plate in the bottom of the cap may be dimpled in if so turn it over.

There is no brass insert on the knob on that model.

1st Check and make sure your spool is centered. Back the tension control knob out and tighten the other side all the way in until it clicks. The tighten the cast control knob down till you get adjustment.

If that does not fix the problem then check under the cast control knob and make sure you have the square fiber shim and a black rubber shim under it. If both are there then turn the fiber shim over. That should fix the problem. There is nothing else that will cause it.

Those shims are commonly M.I.A. on many reels I service. On the older Curado 200's, if the cast control spring isn't positioned just right against the bearing, cast control no workee!

He is referring to a 50E not a B.

I am not a reel tech, but if all else fails, maybe you can check the following: Look at the spring and make sure the coils will fit within one another when the spring is compressed. The spring should be more tightly coiled at the end that is pressing against the shim(s). If it isn't, you will have to tweak and shape it with a small pair of needle nose pliers.
