I just looked at my calendar and realized there's a full moon on the 8th. There should be a few places that have a posibility that the male bluegills have already cleaned out some nests and the females might be on the move toward those nest. At least, thats what I gathered since it's been such a mild winter. Of course, rain and suddenly muddy water could make even a great chance a "no chance" quick! The rule of thumb is 3 days before and 3 days after the full moon when the sun and water temps are just right. I think there are some waters in texas that might fit that bill! If that water is near you, we're right at the beginning of "the first wave of spawners! banana The first spawn is normally the best one to catch numbers of big bream in my experience. Will be looking foward to the report through out the state for the next week to be sure! Don't forget to take some coolphotos!

BTW: If ever there was a time to give artificials a chance, it's now! Fish that haven't seen a lure in quite a while + nest guarding instincts at full power = BBGs hitting all types of lures CONSTANTLY AND HARD! hooked taz

I have already seen some clearing spots in both the Comal River and Salado Creek. I have also heard reports that the Longear are sitting on nest in the Cibolo Creek. I have been catching a few Gills that have eggs in em. Looks like the full moon should be a good time to nail a few. fish

Lake Weatherford is 2 1/2 feet low. If the weather man is halfway right it should fill this week. The first spawn should occur on the first full moon in April here. I can hardly wait!

Smithaven, let me know when you go. I have never only targeted Bluegills, and would like to see how its done. I have always been a Striper/Hybrid/Sandbass/blackbass guy, but it sounds like fun!

won't be able to fish the full moon but I will be out with my monthly telescope adventures!
if you guys get a chance, Mars is out this time of year. it is right below the moon to the left. Red looking 'star'. Also immediately behind you (if you are facing the moon) Jupiter is still out and now Venus has moved into the nighttime era as opposed to falling behind the horizon around dawn. Venus can be seen right by Jupiter, two big glowing planets.
off topic I know, but cool to share info that you are passionate about.

Thanks for the heads-up Jagg. Normally the March moon isn't that great for me, but you are right, water temps are definitely up above normal. Sure worth giving it a try.

Maybe I should make a run down to Fairfield and see what's up there.
Would like to find me a 14ft. wide-deep jonboat on a trailer before I go tho. I have a 15HP Evinrude 4Stroke that needs mounting on something...:)

Sure wish you would...and then tell the rest of us what you find. There should be some decent 'gills showing up by now....but without the predators (e.g. reds) I wonder if they will ever reach the consistent sizes they once did.

+2 on that one. Sure would be nice to see just how the 'gills are doing in FF. Wonder if the lack of predators is gonna mean spawning beds everywhere! Wasn't exactly a lack of spawning real estate there to begin with if I remember correctly. I really hope the lake can produce the crackerjack 'gill factory it has in the past. Last I heard anything about the restocking situation, they were gonna hold off on putting major numbers of Reds and Black Bass. Might've been false info or maybe I remember wrong. Anybody have any recent info?

I look foward to seeing some of those monsters you produce/catch out by you MeadowLark. Honeydews should have a nice glow to them by now. Probably not spawning, but bellies full of eggs and food. Males attitudes getting meaner and meaner day by day! realmad
