I am in the situation where I may have a possible job in Blackwell, Texas which I believe is about 3-5 miles from Oak Creek Reservoir. Any good stories, reports, tips, or information I can get on fishing there or the lake itself? Thanks in advance!
Also any information on the community of Blackwell? I will be working in the school district if I end up going there. Thanks again.

If it has water in it I have heard of 13-14 lbers out of it with several 10 plus. I ran some ranches in that area for 13 years and never got to fish it. Always wanted to but most of the time it was really low. Good Luck !

Wow thanks Marc. I appreciate it. The little perk of having a lake that close makes the deal sweeter...then hearing that 10+ pounders have been pulled out...nice!

The lake has been real low for years and then a few years back it filled up. I has gone down since but still fishes OK. There have been some really nice fish caught out of that lake in recent years. It does have the potential for some nice fish. I personally have cauhgt some 8's out of there about a year ago. If you are going to be living in Blackwell you are literally a mile or so from the lake. Heck you could live on the lake and work in Blackwell. Other than that it is a small town and not much to do but there are a couple towns near by w/in 20 miles or so. Bigger towns a bit longer, hour or so.

Thanks for that useful information, gator. Would living that close to the lake be worth buying my first bass boat? I would be about a mile from Oak Creek and within an hour from Lake Sweetwater, Fort Phantom, O.H. Ivie and Nasworthy if I am not mistaken (give or take a few minutes).

I like that lake, when there is water in it. Good crappie lake also. I grew up kicking blackwells butt in football, but it is a good small town school. Those are the best IMO. If you get a boat you will be driving over to ivie once you figure it out, it is worth the trip.(most of the time) good luck
