I am in a debate with a cousin about the best bait for blue's on jugs. I think there is nothing better than fresh live shad and he is dead set on cut bait. Anyone have thoughts on this subject?

Depends what you're targeting. Flathead = live, blues = cut.

When in doubt, set the hook.

I am the cousin he is talking about. I have been a member here several years. Yes I do not post much. I don't like the criticism this place has to offer. He was just asking for input, and all a newer guy gets from the more experienced people is a smart assed answer. Good job guys! rolleyes

Thanks guys! I appreciate it but I have seen way to many newer people get shot down in this place. I wasn't trying to cause problems, just make things a little more fun.

I agree Tom. Perch is "better" for flatheads, I personally like to cut the tail and make them bleed a little. Cut shad has been the ticket for blues in our little mud hole. We managed a 26lb blue on cut shad last year. We did catch a 16" shad in our net. I do have a picture of it on a team catfish measuring sticker. All we caught on that cut shad was a 15lb blue.
