What's your choice? Single Snell or Double Snell? Mid sized bait choice? Gizzard choice? Chunks, heads, butterfly, butterfly no vertebra, fillet, whole minus tail, live, the fish don't care, etc..............?

Recently the fish have been biting on smaller baits for me...Im sure that using big baits is still fine for now but once the bigguns head for their spawn it might be un-necessary to use bait bigger than the fish you might catch on it. Been using heads and fillets but not doing anything fancy...

Just try it all and let the fish tell you what they prefer. Either way, be sure to give it a good shot of Dead Red!

If the Shad is longer than say 6" then i do head and chunks.....if bait is smaller, then it usually goes on whole minus a piecE of the tail (just to help it bleed out)
never use actual fillets,i consider the2-4" hookers fillets tho

Been using heads and fillets but not doing anything fancy... Looking to learn a bit more about this spawning as this will be my first season. How does it work? Just try it all and let the fish tell you what they prefer. Either way, be sure to give it a good shot of Dead Red! Tried some Kat Juice the last two trips. Not knocking it as I dont know if someone on here is the maker, but as of right now, it was about 50% 50% to no spray. Will continue to test......

Smash um, cut um, slice um, dice um, string um on or just use the heads, but Bobby is right... Either way, be sure to give it a good shot of Dead Red!

I hear some folks like to knock the scales off with a knife. Claims it puts more scent in the water. Might try it, especially if your drifting.

It's a lot like knots, everybody thinks a different knot is the best or works better. You just have to figure out what works where you're at and what works for you. I taught myself. I didn't want to sound like an idiot and ask stupid questions, so I just went out and figured it out on my own...well, after looking on the internet a little bit.
Fishing is a biblical sport!
