Had an interesting day corkie fishing. Figured out a new way to use it and while no big fish, there were lots of them. Stop by my blog for a full report and a video link.

Good Luck and Tight lines.

I have never tried fishing a corkie before in part because I had never found one to purchase. Cabelas now carries them so I ordered several. Did not receive them in time for my Feb. trip unfortunately, but plan on giving them a try my next trip down in March.

I make it through the day by dreaming of my next trip to Port A.

Well...corkies work great in freshwater for bass also. Walked a few SE Kansas farm ponds yesterday and caught four bass over 5 lbs. The largest was just a little over 7 lbs.
Caught quite a few smaller bass on it as well including one sunfish. The bass hit it so hard it got bent a few times but had no problem bending it back into shape.
Cannot wait try them in the bay in a couple of weeks.

What color were you using for bass?

I was using bone since the water was very clear. Water temperature is still in the upper forties and lower fifties in KS depending upon depth of the water so I fished it very slowly and erratically and the strike would take place on the drop.
I took some photos of the fish and will try to post a photo of the largest one. I wish I had thought to take a photo of the lure in the mouth of that fish because it hit the lure so hard that it bent the head about ninety degrees. Of course, it bent right back out very easily.
The guy I was fishing with that day finally caught a fish over 5 lbs once I let him use a corkie. He has already placed an online order from Academy for his own corkies.

That's really cool. I'll have to try them on bass. Thanks.

$7.99 at Academy online right now for all styles and seem to have almost all the colors available.

Thanks Redfishlaw, very informative and great video to have a visual for my self training. I have some corkies that are brand new, never been opened, but have never used them simply because I didnt know how to present them. Next time I go to the beach I will try the exact same way that you mention...count to 3 and the slowly retrieve. My usual fishing place is at Rollover Pass. But I also know of a couple of flats on Crystal Beach that I am will to try this technique.

BTW, if you don't mind me askin, and you don't have to be specific, but where were you fising? Looks liks some good flats at your whereabouts.

Thanks again,

Hector
