I've heard reports from several guide that the red are hitting pretty good on silver rattletraps and silver pet spoons.

Thanks. I was kinda thinking that since we had such a mild winter they might start a little earlier.

Have the parks cleaned up any? A friend of mine has an RV that we could bring down. We can stay at the RV park by the Days Inn but it would be nice to stay at the park. Can't afford armed security though.

Calaveras is probably safer than most parks around and since Thousand Trails runs it they run a pretty tight ship. Besides that, the San Antonio Police Swat team is just minutes away! Edit: On second thought, those snowbirds in the RV section can get pretty rowdy so you might want to watch your six!

I've been catching a mess of them at Cali across the kayak launch on the other side of the dam on Yeh Monn shad flavor but all except 1 were under 18". Its amazing how strong the lil fellers are, had a 16" pull me for a sleigh ride then kept flying away from the yak when I got him close. The channels are hot right now under the trees there across from yak launch and in the 181 cove too. Fresh dead or live shad is key, although shad gizzards with guts that I picked up at Fisherman's Corner on 306 also killed them.

Normally a salt water fisherman but with fuel prices and the crowds during spring break decided to head to Calaveras this year when I saw they had RV spots now.Booked a spot for next week to check it out.$120 for a week aint bad.Kind of new to this freshwater Red fishing so any tips on reds and cats for this Lake would be appreciated [baits and technique],got a boat so should be able to get anywhere. Will try and post reports as we go

yes... keeper reds are already running at cali... people without downriggers you can still get to them because they have been in the upper water column lately where you can grab em with 3/4-1oz rattletraps...
