I grew up fishing the north end of Toledo bend mostly around Tenaha creek and Huxley Bay. To make a long story short, I married a girl from the Timpson - Garrison area and now live there. I've been driving back forth on the weekends from my house to the Huxley area fishing for the last 6 years and have decided to try murvaul to save the drive. I have never fished murvaul and cannot find any maps to show creeks or ledges or anything.
If anybody could help me find some creeks or deep holes or old brush piles or anything where I might catch a few would be greatly appreciated. Or if they are up shallow getting ready for the spawn, where is a good place to start? I'm not expecting anyone to tell me there secret holes just a good place to start. I would even trade you couple of my spots on Toledo bend!!!!!haha. Anything would be great. Thanks in advance!

I haven't been on Murvaul in years, but there are plenty of big fish in there. We quit going when it became a slot lake and tournaments were no longer held there.

People may laugh at me but Murvaul may have the new state record swimming in it as we speak. If I lived close I would get to know it and seek out some of the older fishermen around the lake for info.Just ask around the bait shops and tackle stores. These older fishermen are much more acessible when it comes to info than the younger generation. powdr

There have been some huge fish caught out of the reeds right out in front of Stovall's. Also, a lot of nice fish are caught under the boat docks on that lake. Otherwise, get out in the main lake and graph the creek and look for a big hump out there. They all hold fish at different times of the year. And I agree with powdr, there might be a state record there. It just doesn't get near the attention it got years ago. Good luck.

Funny, I ran into a guy at 6 this morning putting gas in his bug headed to murvaul. I haven't even thought of that lake in years. Looked it up on tpwd website and the lake record is quite a pig.

That lake is small enough you could graph it in a day. There are some huge fish in that lake!!! When I first moved to the area all I heard about was the 3 Ms. Montecello Martin creek and murvaul. That was the early to mid 90s. Don't count out lake timpson or pinkston either. Or lake nacadoches.

I was going to mention these as well. Both are fine little bass lakes!

The Boy Scout point has always been good to me, I've caught many over 6 off of it. There's (at least used to be) timber at about 10ft. and the fish come off the wood. I've also caught good fish out from under the main lake piers that are close to deep water. Great lake. I haven't fished the lake since I coached in Tatum, and that's been 6 years ago, but I grew up fishing and duck hunting on Murvaul. Great crappie lake as well.

Thanks guys for all the replies. I went today for a couple hours and caught about 20 or so crappie under the bridge. Most were in the 9 in range so I didn't keep any but still had a good time.
I have fished lake timpson and pinkston alot. Caught lots of nice fish. One of most fun you can have is at pinkston in June and July out in from of the damn. Bass school like crazy all summer long, non stop. Always catch em till we get tired of pullin them in.
