I've been having accessory power problems and I finally narrowed it down to this box in the hull under the storage trays. When I touch the pos post cable power come on then cuts off. All fuses are ok. Not sure if this box is bad, just never seen it before. Thanks in advance..

Check your ground, if that box is all circuitry, you might have an internal short.

spray some circuit cleaner on it too, It looks a little greenish like it needs to be cleaned.

about to give up till tomorrow disgusted!!!!, cleaned the connecters real good. when I take the acc fuse out and put it back in all acc/master light comes on for about 8 sec then cut off again. I think this thing is toast. Wonder if I can locate a used one somewhere, or is it possible to bypass.

Soft we feel your pain brother we have all been there. Go get some sleep and try again tomorrow. First thing tomorrow replace both + and - cable connector on the two wires. I know I know that is not what is wrong but it cost about 60 cents and takes about 10 minutes to do and just maybe its fixed. Another thing you might do is try the Bass Boat Central Forum they have a forum specific to your boat and have a forum for your specific motor also. They have some real mechanics who regularly post you might actually stumble across the problem. I am no mechanic but it sounds like a ground loose somewhere to me. It seems like you could call that company on Monday and get some specs maybe to put a voltmeter tester to that box and get some readings to see if it was a bad box. Any way Good Luck

If its the accessory power thats giving you trouble as you said, you should be able to wire your pumps and graphs straight to the battery bypassing the box. Just a thought if thats the only thing giving you trouble, could save you from having to buy a new one.

Soft tap I would do two things.First I would check and make sure that all the fuses are not very thin and only able to hold power for only a few seconds.Second I would take that metal cover off and make sure it's not pinching a wire some where. It could only be touching two small strands of hot copper wire to cause the problem.Years of wave pounding has probably moved, vibrated, or moved something slightly or partially cut something almost in two.
Tap you also might want to trace the wires back to your console or gauges and make sure the vibration has not shook a wire partially loose or all the way loose and it's touching another wire.Like I said one small strand of stray hot copper wire could be touching something and causing this. ALMOST AS BAD AS FIGURING OUT A SHORT ON A TRAILER WIRE! THEY DRIVE ME NUTS!powdr

I am certainly not an expert but it appears to be a voltage regulator to me. It would basically protect guages, lights, etc. from too much voltage being produced by the alternator in the motor. Power comes in and is distributed to the various circuits. I dont think they are on all boats but I could be wrong. Seems that most everything on a boat is pretty simple open - closed swithes etc. that could handle the small over current, couldn't be more than 14 amps or so. Not sure why you would need it.... http://www.dnagroup.com/Home.aspx

Or, possibly, that motor had an alternator that was not internally regulated like almost all are now?? Would seem odd with the technology available for the last 30 years or so. When was the last time you saw an external voltage regulator on a car. Changed a bunch of them in the 70's and 80's but that would be strange in 2000.

Not trying to make you sound stupid or anything but are you sure your battery is charged up. I know when your battery is low it can do some weird things like this. To me if it works for 8 seconds its not a short its a voltage problem. but you say if you touch the wires and it turns off that sounds like a short. Your battery may show 12 volts but may not be handling a load. I would suggest load testing your battery first. Always start off with smallest things. Is that a big plug that has all the wires comming out of it? That looks like a nightmare lol
