The hole for my merc is on my lower unit. It is a little hole on the bow side of the LU. If I bump a log, it will clog up, but just removing the wood will get it working. Might have to pull apart the hose that runs up to the gauge and blow them out with an air compressor. x2

I once knew a man that owned a marine dealership in Garland. He would advertise Spring Tuneup for your outboards for $99.00
He would change the sparkplugs and rill the pitot holes out bigger. You were guaranteed to go 5 mph faster......

You have to go far enough but be careful going in too far or you can easily damage the part that makes it work. I don't mess mine any more, just use the gps. When I did unclog mine, once I got it clear, water would always drain out. If water is coming out of the hole when you drill it, then it's cleared out and you may have something else wrong.

I was actually surprised when mine ran within 1.5 +/- of what my GPS reads...

I guess this brings up the question... Everyone here topped out their boat within a month of owning it.
Now that you know how fast you CAN go, why does it matter how fast you are actually going?
