Academy is having a sale on rods and I was wondering for a clicking reel would it be best to use a 7' or 6.5'? Since I am sitting down, I assume the 7' would get more distance. I use it to fish bottom. I use a 6.5' with a spinning for my popping cork or lures. what are yalls thoughts?

I don't know much about that type of fishing but seven foot is much better for a fish that may run under your yak and come back and you need to get your line around the front of the yak.

I've started using the longer 7' rods in the kayak and am really like them. The additional length does make them a tad bulky when storing them, but it's well worth the trouble when you are casting them.

I use 6' to 8' depends on what you are fishing for and area you are fishing.

The shorter rods are great around docks with crank baits etc., you can be a lot more accurate.

Longer rods are great for open water for cranks for distance (need a flexible rod)

7' plus with a good backbone are great for pitching in cover etc. and pitching in docks.

generally I like up to a 7' but depends on what im after & where I'm fishing. If I'm in a creek, i like shorter rods because of the overhanging trees, UNLESS I'm trying to drop my jigs into log jams for crappie. I have some old rods that wont quit. They are about 6' now from the repairs. I'll use them for everything but they work best on Hybrid & Stripers. Like the others mentioned, a longer rod can be nice if your not in the creek & a bigen crosses under your yak or IMO your using braid.

Yeah, it really depends on what you are using the rod for. Whenever someone asks me if I had to pick one rod to use, and had to use that for everything, I would pick a 7' medium or medium-heavy rod with a Mod-Fast or Fast action.

In my heavy rotation all my rods except two are 7 fters: 7' 6" deep cranking rod and 6' 6" shallow crank/spinnerbait... The extra length of the 7'6 really gives a lot more distance on casts, which allows the bait to dig deeper... The 6'6 allows for much better accuracy which is important in shallower water. The closest thing to an all purpose rod is my mh 7 footer... Personally slightly longer works better for most presentations, but above 7 gets awkward when you're in the trees...
