I for one am very pleased about the presence of the highway patrol. I can appreciate them being there and DOING THEIR JOB. The speed limit is the law, if you are not doing it, than its on you and its up to the officer to give it a pass or not (if your over). I think most people see it as a suggestion. With the amount of drug trafficing going on, I say let them do what they do. You have a choice to follow it or not.......

We all stumble and make mistakes. When you stumble, do you want your brother to help knock you down or to help set you back on your feet?

Skeet4life,you might get by at 10 and over in Arlington during the day because of the flow of traffic, a patrol man is putting his life at risk on a traffic stop then. But try 10 over at 4 am on 121 or 114 and odds are you will be stopped.

Good to know. I keep my speed down around small towns and city's. Those cops will pull you over for any little violation to get some more money.

Even if you got a ticket but yet the officer was professional and courteous. Its nice to hear job well done when you get beat down by the motoring public for doing your job.

I hear it so often that we run traps in order to make traffic stops and create revenue. Bottom line is the little white signs, (really big in some cases) with the black lettering that say speed "LIMIT" mean just that. If you chose to exceed that limit, even by 1 mph, then you run the risk of getting stopped and possibly getting issued a citation. It's pretty cut and dry, either you were speeding or you weren't!!! Yes I have pushed the limit and got stopped for doing 6 over on I-20 by a trooper. I was speeding, what else was I to expect. Yes, as officers we do have tolerances that we allow, but that's at the officers discretion.

I love it when people ask about our speed "trap". I would only think it's a trap if you get caught. I also love radar detectors, especially the day when the guy threw it out the window when my radar was faster than his detector. Also the dummy in court last week that said he has gotten 3 tickets in the same place in 6 months and yet he konws what the speed limit is. Job security!!! lol

This post started out as a simple request to pass along a thank you to an officer if someone by chance knew him. Send me a pm spencer918 and Ill see what resources I have available to me to get you message passed along...

Ive got 21 yrs and I agree whole heartedly with gonefishin!!!

20 years here and I don't write speeding to avoid being a hypocrite. I have a lead foot at times myself. Actually I don't write any tickets hardly at all since I really don't do traffic. But I'm glad there are officers who will work traffic so i don't.

I just love the fact that people actually cry and whine like a baby because they caught CAUGHT breaking the law. "The officer TRAPPED me". What? WAAAAAAA! You broke the law, accept responsibility like an ADULT and just be on your way. Jeez, this "it's never MY fault" society we live in, sometimes makes me laugh!

I used to speed and get tickets all the time. I was hardheaded, Wouldn't wear a seat belt cause I didn't want to be told what to do. about age 45 I got a ticket for 95 in a 55, about 300 miles from home. I had to go to court . Fine was $400.00 I missed 2 days of work, and had a motel bill. all in all about $ 1000.00. Finally realized the best way to avoid all these troubles was obey the laws.

Most of you are too lazy to pulse your radar.

Came through the little town of Chilicothe, Texas on New Year's Day 1989. I remember because I had been to the Cotton Bowl that day. I passed a cop sitting on the side of the road. I had my cruise on 55 so I wasn't worried. Right after I passed him he pulled out and turned on his lights. I told my girlfriend he couldn't be coming for me because I was going 55 in a 55.

I pulled into Allsups to get some coffee and he pulled in behind me. He walked up and said, "Is there some emergency that would cause you to go 55 in a 45 mph construction zone?" I said, "No, there is no emergency. Where was the construction zone sign, because I didn't see it and I also don't see any construction."

This was at about 10 p.m.

He wrote me a ticket for some ridiculous amount. When we left I went back the way we came looking for the 45 mph speed limit sign. There it was, sitting on the ground right beside his car.

I put a note in the envelope with my check, payable to some Justice of the Peace, that apparently their ****hole, podunk town needed the money a lot worse than I did.

To this day I will never spend a penny in Chilicothe when I pass through there.

I've had a somewhat similar experience in Henderson. So...please don't tell me there is no such thing as a "speed trap".

You "laugh" and "go get you another motorist"?

Hmmmmm...

+1 on the hmmmmmm...

Highway patrol usually target motorist or am I missing something?

Guess I was only hoping of less highway speed traps and maybe more boat thievery sting traps...

pulling a trailer, you shouldn't be going over the limit anyway. I've seen some bad stuff happen from blowouts on trailers going 65+, thankfully I try to be smart enough to learn from others misfortunes. And you know what, you can normally get 1-2mpg better going the speed limit than trying to go 10 over.

I have no issues with people getting pulled over for speeding, BUT I absolutely hate being tailgated for 5 miles by a cop that I assume is running my plates just because it says Indiana (and that's giving them the benefit of the doubt). I also can't stand going the speed limit and getting my doors blown off by a cop doing 20 over. Seriously, whats the rush, you're on the clock, right? If your lights aren't on, then follow the speed limit... nobody likes a hypocrite.
I've only been pulled over once, and I deserved a ticket too (20 over trying to make it to an exam, and a brake light out). The officer saw that I had a clean record and just gave me a warning.
Ooo, I think it helps to talk about fishing too, because who doesn't like talkin' fishin!
