I love North Texas. The DFW area, lake Tawakoni, etc. are very cool places to to visit and fish. For HUGE fish.

However......

I live and fish in and around the Central Texas (Austin) area. It seems as though I need to filter through many posts to find an entry that applies to my neck o' the woods.

Just me? Anyone have data regarding the distribution of TFF 'catfish' visitors across the state?

Lets see a show of hands. Who lives Central?

I think it's just the matter of the concentration of folks in the area. The STCA has a pretty large following of South Texas fishermen, but I don't seen a lot of them post here. Not sure why the imbalance in numbers. I've wondered that myself.

Word of mouth...tell your friends. Tell people at the lake and the bait shop.

Make reports about your lakes even if you don't think anyone is listening. I report on Sam Rayburn when I haul the boat down to my inlaws and the only that reads them is Cowdog.

Im in San Antonio and it just makes me wanna go up and visit friends and family up in that area more, yeah right! good excuse to run up there and fish their wonderful lakes lol. I enjoy all the information those guys post and apply it to the way I approach area lakes around me. I mostly catfish and fish from a kayak so even the Bass shows I watch n tv i try to get what I can from them as well as to how they rig their setups.

I think it's a population denisity, number of lakes in close proxemity to that population that makes the big diffrence. Lots of good or sometimes better fish caught here in my neck of the woods, just not that many people repoting. I like reading about all the different lakes and fish. I try to get all the information I can and apply to my enviroment.
My two cents,
Jim

The people in other areas are probably smarter than we are about posting about their hot lakes, not wanting us to come down there!!!!

Central Tx here, you ever see my post asking about reports on Kirby or phantom, all you hear is crickets in the back ground. I can ask general questions about certain fish or bait(stuff that works pretty much for any lake) loads of answers. I agree that it has to do with population denisity and super lakes near dallas. For anyone that cares whites and hybrids have been fair on phantom, blues are warming up and headed shallow at Kirby.

I'm in Central Tx (Waco) and I thought about it once for 3.659 seconds (give or take a thousandth). The answer is obviously there are alot more people in the metro and they are close to some awesome lakes. The Forum is only focused there because they are the most active in the Forum. While we are grossly outnumbered I don't see this as a problem or do I feel like a round peg trying to fit a square hole actually it is exactly as it should be for me....I like quiet places and a slower pace.
I lived in Austin (near) and it felt a little like California...not a mecca for catfishing types. Could be me though...
What is the best lake around Austin for catfishing?
I tried to fish Lake Travis several times but it seems like I always wound up anchoring in Hippie Hollow with my binoculars!! OMG

I'm out west. I don't post reports because I don't catch fish.

i agree. its because the fishing is better in north and northeast texas. as in fishing holes and more species. simple fact.

The thing is that we live here around Lewisville, and Bobby has all the fish trained to come to his boat when he is on the water and nobody else can catch any fish out of it,

And I live close to Ray Bob, and even though it is a pretty good Sand Bass lake, and it's got a few Largemouth in it, it just doesn't have many catfish in it, so we have to go to Lake Tawokoni, and Lake Lavon, to catch fish, and since they are so far and we can't go all the time, we just sit around and talk about fishing.

Maybe someday with all the CPR of the fish we will all have a lake close to us where we might catch a big one.

Good Luck to Ya!!!

Austin here, and yes i notice about all the reports from the DFW area and i enjoy them alot. But we need more central texas and south texas reports. When i get a chance to go fishing i usally go to Lake Travis or Choke Canyon, but Travis has been to low the last year and a half so i haven't been.
