That is a very cool site Kelly, thanks for the Post! According to it, they have stocked over 1 million Northern Pike, and over 15 million walleye back in the 70's! Though I didn't see a record listed for them (Might have missed it), as deep as that lake gets, I would be very surprised if some of them were not still alive, perhaps with some serious size as well. The only thing that might have killed them off would be thermocline problems, if they could not get to the cold water they prefer.

As far as the lakes with Walleye go, it looks like Bridgeport still has walleye in it. The record was just caught back in 94, and ten years is not that long for the life of a lake.

I posted this site a few months ago and had an interesting discussion with several folks who claim to know that the records are not at all accurate or up to date. They claimed to have been present at stockings and surveys that are not mentioned (such as on Lavon). With this being the case I can't help but wonder why the agency which is already strapped for cash, is waisting it's resources with this website if it is not going to be updated in any kind of a reasonable time frame. Now if this data is correct...then they have even more to answer to don't they?

Thanks for the info guys, someone once told me the fish I caught were Chain Pickrell so they must have been right. They were pretty small about a pound or so but it was neat to catch something different and they did put up a good fight.

TBASSYATES: Check out this address, It has the picture of this fish which is native to east Texas. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fish/infish/species/cpk.phtml Chain Pickerel Esox niger Pike Family (Esocidae) Other names: Pike, jackfish Status: Texas nongame fish Description Esox and niger are both Latin words. Esox means "pike," and niger means "dark," or "black." Like its close relatives, northern pike and muskellunge, the chain pickerel is equipped with a large mouth, well adapted for piscivory. The lower jaw, which extends further forward than the upper jaw, is equipped with four sensory pores on the underside. The dorsal and anal fins are set well back on the body. Chain pickerel are usually olive-green or yellowish-brown on the back and sides, shading to a creamy yellow underneath. There is a distinctive pattern of interlocking dark bands on the back and sides that is reminiscent of a chain-link fence. Angling Importance Fishing for chain pickerel is basically a winter-time activity in Texas. It begins with the first real cold front in the fall and continues until March or April when water temperatures warm. Like northern pike, chain pickerel are bony, but usually considered tasty. Although the national record is over nine pounds, the Texas state record is 4.75 pounds (23.75 inches). Biology In Texas chain pickerel spawn between December and February. Strings of sticky eggs are deposited on aquatic vegetation and subsequently fertilized. There is no parental care. When the young hatch they feed on plankton, aquatic insects or even their own siblings. At about three inches the diet becomes almost exclusively other fish. Individuals that shift to a diet of fish earliest tend to grow faster. The species prefers cover and is most often found in patches of aquatic vegetation. In general, they lie in wait and strike when unsuspecting prey swim their way. During their first year they may reach 12-14 inches in length. Growth slows somewhat during the second year when they may attain lengths of 1.5 feet. In Texas they typically reach sizes of 3-4 pounds and about 2 feet in length. Distribution Chain pickerel are distributed along the Atlantic coast of North America from New Brunswick and Nova Scotia south to Florida. The species is found in the Mississippi River drainage from the Gulf Coast as far north as Illinois and Indiana, and may be found in Gulf drainages as far west as the Sabine and Red rivers in Texas.

For a long time Eagle Mountain had the state record walleye. There was a write-up in Star Telegram when the record was broken at Meridith. I wish I could remember when and what it was. When I first moved to Azle 27 years ago, a kid caught a bass that weighed over 9# out of Walnut Creek. Thats way before Florida bass came to Texas.

I realize that Hookem, But if these stats are 1 or even 2 years out of date when It comes to data, well I don't see that as being very helpful. The whole idea is to show the tax dollars at work in my opinion. Don't take me wrong here, I'm not anti-TPWD or anti-USFW, I believe TPWD is currently working with the same constraints as the rest of the state agencys. When is at least ONE honest politician in this state going to stand up and tell it like it is? The truth being that our resources are being swallowed up by the steady influx of illegal aliens moving to this state. This is causing a drain on every agency. Got to happen some time before long. We can just take so much.

I wish TPWD would do a little more to bring back the population of black bass at Possum Kingdom, in the form of restocking Florida strain.

Great link. Thanks Kelly. My grandfather and I use to catch a ton of yellow perch when I lived in Connecticut. They are a blast. Like Starless said, they don't get very big, I think the biggest I caught was like 2lbs, but they fight pretty good for their size. I've always been confused about the whole Bluegill/Perch/Bream thing myself.
