Hi, I'm new to this board. My husband and I saltwater fish in and around Surfside. I am headed for Lake Bastrop with my son in a week and wondered if anyone could tell me how to rig my line for freshwater fishing. When it comes to freshwater fishing I'm clueless. Any help would be appreciated!!

We will be glad to, and welcome to the forum, but first you have to let us know in a boat, from a bank, and what you are fishing for. Sharon

Thanks for the welcome! I'm going to Lost Pines Boy Scout Camp with my son. I imagine most of my fishing will be from the bank, they do have canoes that can be used. I plan on catch and release only. As for targeted fish, I'm up for ideas? I just love the catching!!! Mostly Anything, LOL Any ideas, suggestions?

Oh,and will probably stick to artificials. I use a Shimano baitcaster reel and medium action rod and have 12lb test line on it.

work2fish...I have been fishing some local ponds and lakes and have had good luck catching some nice Bass on topwaters, morning - afternoon - evening. My most productive is a large Chug Bug, Blue Gill color. 2nd choice is a white with black markings and blue eye baby Torpedo. 3rd choice is a large Torpedo baby Bass color. Used some Spinner Baits by Heavy Cover that I also caught some Bass on in thick vegetation. My favorite rig is one of my Quantum baitcasters with 14lb test on a 6'medium action Falcon rod. banana

Please let us know how your trip goes and don't forget the pictures. fish

work2fish, Lake o'the Pines is great for cats. We stayed there for a week once, and fished with shrimp. Came home with a boat load. Just use at least a 12 lb line, and put on a leader with a dropshot lead on the bottom, dependeng on the currant, but probably about 1/2 oz. and a leader coming out about 12" up, and make the leader about 6" long, use a circle hook. Redtoplady, just read your post, thanks! I made a shopping list from your post so will see how it goes next week and will definitely send pics, well hopefully some fishing pics! Sad to say but son doesn't like to fish! He's 11, we survived 5 years of cub scouts and this is our first year of boy scouts and first year of 1 full week camping. I'm looking forward to it and he's grumping about it! Geez, don't understand it, LOL.

Joe, JP Greeson probably knows how to get hold of Sugar. Or contact the Texas Outdoor Writers Assoc. l.leschper@att.net His name is Lee he should have the member list with phone numbers. Stay Cool.
