Thats one of the more interesting scenarios I have heard relative to this device...Give us more info...Same baits, were they {trail boat} close most of the time while it was on, etc, etc, etc...This could make for some interesting banter!

Tony I have one and I swear it works. I was on Fork Sunday and actually had baitfish jumping around me. I was able to boat a 4lber. The fish bite about 2 feet from the boat. Since I started using the hydrowave I've had alot of bites close to the boat.

Kevin and Jeff are missing a chunk of the fishing market...IMHO. What about those who are bank fishermen? If that unit can run off a 6volt battery why not try and shrink the package down, modify the speaker system and make it so a bank fisherman could use it. And those who fish a tube, bass buster etc. would like it. Smaller size, smaller battery, etc.

Just a thought...and I bet they'd sell a bunch at a good price point.

I hereby volunteer to be a beta tester of said "Bank Fisherman" unit...:)

You'll need 2, 1 for the front and back of the boat. Having 1 just isn't cool anymore!

You are talking and I am listening. The unit is pretty small and therefore it CAN be used by guys fishing out of kayaks, canoes, tubes, docks, or even the bank. It will run for days off of a small lantern battery. Also, what would be a "good price point"

Thanks

There are small 12v. lawnmower/Wheelchair batteries OR you could jumper 2 - 6 volt lantern batteries.

You can jumper 2 - 6 volt batteries or get the smaller Wheelchair/Lawnmower 12 volt batteries.

I personally would jump on one if they were under $300. I'd feel good about a purchase at $250-$275. I can buy a NICE marine stereo for what that little unit and speaker go for.

Given today's technology, e.g. phone sizes, shrinking the unit should be a matter of PCA re-design, component size reduction, etc. I know, having worked in the hi-tech industry, that smaller board run quantities are not cheap and therein lies the price point issue I'm sure. Surface Mount Technology can pack a lot of functionality into a package.

Frankly your target market is really going to dictate your price point on a package like we are discussing here. And being a former marketing guy I know determining that is part science and part guess work...:) And spending R&D money on a "what if" project can be tricky.

Whatever you do DON'T sell it at Wally world....they will beat you up something awful over your price....they are ruthless when it comes to setting what they will pay you for your product.

Still have friends in the hi-tech arena and hear the horror stories about negotiating with Wally world over product placement and price...:)

Wally World dont negotiate much, I know first hand...Technology is like anything else...Let the market and demand settle, then the price point will follow...Its like 600 buck for the new iphones, now you can get one for 100 bucks. Hydro will get there...Dont get me wrong, still a cool product, they like all of us are taking what the market will bare...Once it cools down you will see a price change. Good luck to all, Hydro and the consumer!

Yes, you can buy a new iPhone for $100 but one must keep in mind that comes with a two year commitment. Not a fair comparison.

True, not a fair comparison. However, I know several fellow fishermen that would spend $200-$225 on a rod or reel, myself included, but hesitate when it creeps up on $300, i.e. when the REVO MGX came out, it was all the hype, but people cringed at the $350 Price tag (at least the guys I run with). Now, I have a computer engineering degree that focused on hardware design and used to run an IT company before I came back into the Army and I understand you make most of your money on residual sales, after recouping initial investment for software design, hardware manufacturing, bringing to market, etc.... I guess what Im saying is, if the Hydrowave was closer to $225-$240, there would be a lot less hesitation to buy, IMO therefore increasing overall sales, increasing brand awareness/adverstisment through word of mouth, and reaching a bigger demographic through a slightly lower price point. Again, just my .02 based upon how fast I would buy one if it was a little cheaper.

They look like good units. I'd love to try one out. $100 is about the price point where I don't have to justify it to the wife. Once it gets past that, it's just as easy to convince her I need a $400 unit as it is that I need a $200 unit. I only say it's "just as easy" because neither happens very often. I got an HDS-5 and LSS-1 and I know she fully expected that I would never buy another fishfinder for that boat again...ever.
