I use improved clinch knot on everything, it's never let me down.

I use either 15 or 17 lb Berkley 100% with a Palomar knot. I slobber all over it and pull it down painstakingly slowly. If the knot does not pull down perfectly and evenly I cut it off and start over.
I got hung in a deep brushpile yesterday and thought I was going to strip the gears out of my reel trying to break the 15 lb.
On the other hand, prefishing for a tournament one day last year I broke the 15 lb three times. I threw that spool away and I've never broken it on a fish since.
I think sometimes you just get a bad batch of line.

Jason u know i use the polmar knot also. Take that sunline and throw it in trash. Its all junk. Buy either the Xps Floro like i use or the visious pro elite floro, seguar invix also. All 3 of those r the best.
Everyone talks bout wetting the knot and stuff. I dont change my floro out but every 3 months. Dont wet the knot either. But yet ive only broke off one fish in over a year since i made the switch and that was on a duck blind. Next cast 7 even. Heck the 7-7 i caught with Pack in the ice storm wrapped me around the whole tree and still no issues

Seaguar products all the way, and the palomar hasn't failed me yet.

My buddy swears by the XPS fluoro and he caught a ten pounder on the 15# test last year.
I switched to fluorocarbon exclusively after he consistently out-fished me with it.
Naturally, I used the XPS initially, but I had one spool where fully half of it was kind of crimped and crushed coming off the spool. Switched to Seaguar Red label because it was much cheaper and it had a good reputation. Landed my own ten pounder the last weekend in January on the Seaguar 12# test.
I absolutely believe you should stick with the fluorocarbon, especially if you use finesse baits like Senkos.
Also, the Palomar is a good knot if you tie it perfectly, but I personally believe the Improved Clinch is superior. Like the guy above said, slobber all over it and retie if it isn't perfect. It should look like a little noose when it's done right.

Was at the expo this weekend. Stren had a machinge to test knot strength. I tied a palomar with 12lb fluorocast and it broke at 14lbs of pressure. Took care not to "burn" the line when cinching. Makes a difference.

Do a search for "Stephen Pineau knot", its an awesome knot easy to tie, and super strong.
