I hit Newman's today from about 1:00pm - 3:00pm. Went downstream and ended up catching about 7 or 8 Whites and 1 Catfish. Forgot my stringer at the car so C&R'd all fish. Water is still really muddy. Went over to Nails Creek to try for some Crappie. Caught two solid keepers, a couple of throwbacks, and a bunch of catfish. The catfish bite was really on. Probably caught 5 or 6 good size cats. All fish at Nails were caught on a jig & bobber. The fishing in Yegua Creek this week should be awesome as the water begins to clear up. Crappie from Nails

Everything I've caught has been downstream of the trail way bridge. The water level there is pretty low so I don't think the good fishing is going to last unless we get some more rain.

The creek fish took a pretty good beatin' over the last week or so let's hope we get more rain.. Any of ya'll going to join me Thursday 10am to try and kayak up the Yegua from Nails Creek Park? I hope the lake will be within two feet of pool by then because anything lower and we will have trouble breaching the mouth of the creek.. 235.14 Sunday night, if it rains we just might make it..

Saturday 8AM the boys were ready and waiting as I arrived to take them creek fishing! Michael and Jordan have fished with me before but not like what we were in for Saturday! We only had about an hour or so in the morning to fish before heading to the State Park for the Fishing Clinic but I was able to put those two creek clowns on the fish pretty quick! The boys cooked the hotdogs and help me with the Fishing clinic before we headed back out to the creeks for the afternoon. I get the general impression the smaller creeks like Nails and especially Cedar are running out of fish! When we walked back into Nails creek from CR 125/ WMA we were met by only one other couple fishing the creek. Lots of folks at Cedar creek and Newman's Bottom on the Yegua were catching a few but every once in a while someone would walk back with what looked like a limit.. Me and the creek clowns didn't do too bad for the amount of time we actually spent fishing in the water and not in the trees! Those two boys went through $15 bucks worth of Roostertails! But that's a small price to pay for the show they put on.. Jordan's dad, Bobby is my running buddy from way back, and watching these two boys reminds me of all the adventures we have had together. I suspect neither of the boys will forget fishing the muddy, slippery banks of Cedar, Nails and Yegua creek any time soon and that's as it should be...

Did y'all catch all the fish? Maybe the fish made a mad dash in and out of the creeks?
It sounds like the Yegua has yet to start?
Shut up and fish!

Hey HL&S, I had a great time at the meeting. I always learn a few things at these little get together meetings, so I highly recommend anglers to come to these events. It was great to see some old friends as well as to meet a few new ones. I wish I could have stayed a little longer to chit chat, but I had three people with me that were ready to go catch a few fish. I ended the day with 17 whites and my friends took home 11. The talk on the creek was the early morning bite. It sounded like the early bird got the worm. Limits were taken very early, and from 1pm on, the bite was slow. I saw stringers of anywhere between 2 to 12 fish. Lots of people were there, but the bite had slowed. Due to all the walking I did, my right knee swelled up pretty bad, so I have no clue when I'll be able to get back out there. But I suggest that everyone should get out there some time this week before the Yegua water drops and the fish return to the lake. It had dropped three feet from two days a go when I was there. So it's dropping fast. Be careful on the water and remember this, if you hauled it in, then you should be the one to haul it back out. Don't litter folks. Have fun and catch a ton of fish........

Thanks go to everyone that helped with the clinic Saturday, we should do it again soon! I'll be making a attempt Thursday morning (10AM) to kayak up into the Yegua if anyone want to tag along you are welcome to. There is a good chance that the lake is still to low to breach the shallow muddy flat at the mouth of the Yegua but either way this paddle trip will take some serious effort up to that point. Once we are in the creek it should be smooth paddling up from there.. The boys and I managed ten or eleven whitebass but CPR'ed everything because I really didn't have time to clean fish Saturday. My two redneck nephews hit the creeks Sunday but it was slow (late starters) on Cedar but the Yegua saved the day as the boys caught about a dozen whites that are destined to hit the grease later this week

After I took the kids to school I ran out to Somerville to try my luck. I stopped at Cedar since it was on the way (wanted to go to the Yegua). My first cast was a White...I thought it was "on" like Friday, but that wasn't the case. I caught a few more in the next 15 mins. Then I changed my retrieve...I slowed it down to almost a stop, picked up the tip of my rod, and let it fall without reeling. I would get a slight bump when the jig was sinking less than a Crappie nibble. It was real hard to feel them since I broke off the tip my rod. I caught about 15 whites and it just seemed to STOP. I saw a lure hanging on a root by the water edge so I grabbed it just to see what kind it was. It was a small white Rooster tail. What the heck, they quit biting what I had so I tied it on my line. It was back on...I caught around 6 in about 20 casts. Problem was that I couldn't keep the blade spinning. I tied my jig back on to try and close out my limit...now all I could catch were channel cats. They were nailing my jig...I caught 4 cats(released them all) and decided it was time to go. I pulled my stringer up, walked up the bank, and headed back. I saw one bend I wanted to try so I dropped my stringer and headed over there. Slow rolling the jig produced 7 more in 10 casts. I culled out the smallest ones to keep a limit. I caught 31 whites and 4 cats. I drove by NCP, Nails, and the Yegua to see what was going on today. I ran into 3 anglers at the WMA by Nails...they had a few NICE Crappie. Also I talked to some anglers at 124 for a moment. One was just leaving and one just got there. The one(James) that was leaving had 8 monster whites and two good Crappie. Those whites from the Yegua would of ate my cedar whites for breakfast...(lol) I didn't go to NB so no reports from there. I now have fish for my freezer

Tommy, I won't be fishing for a while...don't worry about the stringer for now. We will go when I'm done with this stretch of work.
How many did you end up with?
