Put a line in at Research Park tonight. Caught about 5 nothing over 6 inches but it was nice to get a fish on the line for the first time this year. They were hitting a hi vis yellow stimulator all night. I will be out again tomorrow after class around 5:00. Fellow anglers welcome. Here is the fly i used tonight:

Better watch out in Research as the coppers will run you out. We used to allegedly fish in there in the late 90's and would always get caught and told to leave.

I'm actually pumped that you went out and gave it a try. I've been wanting to go out there and have been slightly nervous of the po-po, but hey if the worst they do is ask me to leave I've got no problem with that. I've been looking for a little pond to get me going for the season. Maybe I'll run into you after exams this week. Can't wait.

Here is another question: White bass fishing near somerville? I'm not really familiar with the area at all. But is there any way to know when a good time to go for white bass is? Also can you drop a fly in from the bank or wade anywhere nearby? Never fished the place but is close enough it could work. I had a blast white bass fishing up on lake waco. I'd never even heard of white bass until moving to Texas.

I will let the secret out here I guess. Research Park was originally built to bring in corporations to the west side of campus. After that never panned out, and the students began to slowly take it over the University turned it back over to facilities. There had been NO FISHING signs on the back ponds for quite some time, but since the Disc Golf course was added the 2 ponds closest to University have been open for fishing. Fishing license still require.

Nice to know about that. We used to fish the very bottom lake nearest to the airport. Never fished it for bass but it was full of small catfish.

Hey washington ag, I went to somerville yestarday and fished a small creek and caught 3 crappie, 3 bass, a channel cat, and a bluegill. There were a ton of large spawning bass that i couldnt get to bite. Im sure if you went down there with a fly rod you could catch a few, you'll just have to watch your casting because its pretty close quarters. It the creek right before you get to the rocky creek campground turnoff. I think im going to try nails creek next time i go.

I have fly fished most of the creeks at Somerville and at times it is productive but you better know lots of ways to cast because most every creek is covered up in trees and brush.. I've posted several videos on my YouTube Channel

Thank you for that HL&S. Because it reminded me that water which demands the unusual casts can be quite a bit of fun to fish.

Hey Thanks! Will do. I tried fishing research park ponds yesterday. Wasn't worth a darn. I'm definitely going to give the creeks at somerville a go. I'll let you know how it turns out.

So I went fishing at bush pond yesterday evening. I brought bait-casters and my fly rod just in case I got lucky and the wind died down. It turned out to be an absolutely beautiful evening, although it didn't start out that well. I was off to get stuff at Gander just a few things to guarantee my girlfriend a fish, and what do you know my battery went dead in the parking lot. Determined not to let this ruin my evening of fishing I got a jump and took off toward the fishing hole, and parked on a hill. I was able to pick up a few nice looking blue gill. Traditionally at bush pond it seems impossible to pick up anything on artificial bait or flies, but last night once the sun went down, the bugs came out and the bass were hittin the top water bugs hard. I didn't get time to hit it with my fly rod, but I'll be back. I got back in my truck let 'er get to rollin, popped the clutch and off we went. So maybe the moral to the story is... don't let a dead battery keep you from going fishin'.
