Spencer918,
Trust me, coming from an officer of almost 28 years getting a thank you letter of a job well done from your supervisor can do wonders for the moral of an officer. Even if you got a ticket but yet the officer was professional and courteous. Its nice to hear job well done when you get beat down by the motoring public for doing your job.

I hear it so often that we run traps in order to make traffic stops and create revenue. Bottom line is the little white signs, (really big in some cases) with the black lettering that say speed "LIMIT" mean just that. If you chose to exceed that limit, even by 1 mph, then you run the risk of getting stopped and possibly getting issued a citation. It's pretty cut and dry, either you were speeding or you weren't!!! Yes I have pushed the limit and got stopped for doing 6 over on I-20 by a trooper. I was speeding, what else was I to expect. Yes, as officers we do have tolerances that we allow, but that's at the officers discretion.

I love it when people ask about our speed "trap". I would only think it's a trap if you get caught. I also love radar detectors, especially the day when the guy threw it out the window when my radar was faster than his detector. Also the dummy in court last week that said he has gotten 3 tickets in the same place in 6 months and yet he konws what the speed limit is. Job security!!! lol

This post started out as a simple request to pass along a thank you to an officer if someone by chance knew him. Send me a pm spencer918 and Ill see what resources I have available to me to get you message passed along...

Gonefishin, did you write him a ticket for littering when he threw out his radar detector??? LOL.

I have to say, that would have been classic!

bigfishtx---No citation for littering-He realized before I made my second approach how stupid he looked and picked it up.

Skeet4life--Mad that you weren't paying attention to the posted limits and got caught, or that a cop was doing his job?

I know guys, this opens up the topic that we should be making better use of our time like catching thieves and robbers and such. As an officer assigned to "traffic enforcement" we do just that. Enfore trafffic laws.

Or better yet--Don't you have a donut shop you need to be protecting...

I can honestly say after almost 28 years I get tickled at the motorists comments. I laugh it off and go get me another motorist.

I have been pulled over many times on 515 and 154 at Fork. Every time it was by a State Trooper. They we always courteous and professional. One did write me a seatbelt ticket and gave me a warning for the speeding. ...they must have been running a seat belt trap...all of the other times they gave me a warning and told me to slow down. I have learned if I wear my seat belt and do not speed they dont pull me over...

Did you read the warning. It was probably for passing over Fork on the way to Rayburn. LOL

Maybe if everyone started doing the speed limit around Fork..... that would free up the black n whites so there would be less boat/gear/truck at ramp/cabin break-ins??? (wishfull thinking)

As I stated, yes, I laugh it off and go get me another motorist. Simply put, until you've stood on the side of a highway and listened to some of the idiotic things motorists/violators have to say you'll never understand... It's better to get back in the squad and laugh off their comments than to enter into a disagreement with them... Trust me, it's hard not to respond to them and I have caught myself looking like a fool engaging into their stupid comments. Lessons learned...

Don't get me wrong, the motorist is entitled to say anything they want and if it makes them feel better ok. It's just really humerous at times..

There's an old saying-"Better to keep your mouth closed and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt." I've removed all doubt at times on myself...

I deal with law enforcement all the time with my line of work and I have met the trooper who patrols that area of Lake Fork. I asked him explicitly why the speed limit between Emory and then Hwy 154 was 55 MPH and he had a perfectly good explanation -- TOO MANY TRAFFIC FATALITIES! He rattled off the numbers of people who have died on that stretch of road and it was staggering.

So.... The next time he pulls you over for exceeding the POSTED SPEED LIMIT, try thanking him for his efforts in reducing the number of deaths on the stretch of road you are driving.

Me personally... I choose to do the speed limit for that stretch.
