Question for the forum:

Has anyone every accidently stepped on a reel while fishing in windy conditions and broke the mounting to the rod? Have a brand new Diawa Viento thats broke where the reel sits in the rod and wanted to know if anyone has sent their reels back to Diawa for replacement or repair..

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Wanted to check if its was even worth it first if they will stand behind their reels for accidents like this.

If not does anyone know if Southwest will take a gander at it?

Thanks,

Use the contact info on the Daiwa site. Call them and be honest. I would bet they will help you. Excellent customer service.

I would just like to shout out to Mark and say thanks for recommending I go straight to Daiwa for my viento that had busted frame. I explained what I did to bust the frame and they said ship it to them and they would evaluate and let me know. I shipped the reel off to Daiwa and the next thing I know after calling to see if they received it ok was the UPS driver pulling up to my house with a little box. I knew right then what it was and when I opened the box it was my reel fully repaired, serviced and cleaned! Invoice in the box as well said amount due 0.00...

That's awesome customer service and a company that stands by their product!

Glad they fixed you up. Daiwa does not get credit for their CS but in almost every case I have heard about they make sure they keep the customer happy and usually at no charge.

yea, i just recently switched to daiwa and love them (i would stay away from aggrest megaforce frame tho) . . them and shimano are the only 2 companies i feel are making solid reels with available repairs or parts in the future . . don't know about the new shimanos tho?

Daiwa's upper stuff is great (I have 8 Zillions, a TDZ 103ML, and 3 Fuegos), but their current stuff under $200 (save for the Advantage platform reels) can be hit or miss at best.

I bought several Aggrests during Academy's blowout to turn a profit, and they would most all fail the "handle in the store" test. Some felt downright horribly geary and just loosely constructed. Not what you'd expect from a reel priced to go toe to toe with the Curado.

The TDZ/Zillion platform and Sol/Alphas/Pixy platform reels are as good as it gets for performance, parts availability and having aftermarket parts to tinker with. You gotta pay to play though...

Okuma should be included with excellent service. I have had nothing but an excellent relationship with them.
