What is your opinion on the Browning Midas baitcaster ? The 10 bearings and 17 lb. drag with dual braking system sound great, BUT internals, parts, and longevity could be "the rest of the story". Are they good reels?

If they are $25.00 then fine but if they are 80 plus don't even think about it.

They are basically a Shakespear/Pflueter/Pinnacle Korean reel. They are smooth and cast well but the whole Clutch mechanism just as in the Lews, Revo's etc is Plast..... er excuse me...Nylon.

The other part is if and when something breaks... Getting parts is not going to happen.

Stay with Shimano, Quantum, Diawa, Okuma, and even the Revo's as I can at least get a little parts support from Garcia but even it on these Korean reels is a bit iffy. My usual turn around on a Revo for some parts can be as far out as 6 weeks and one time I waited for a handle sideplate from November to March and only then because I raised total He77.

But Lews and these Pure Fishing Brands are almost impossible to guarantee any form of good service on my end so I stay away from them.

The good side is most guarantee them for a year so when it tears up at least you can get a new one when you send it in. (For a year anyhow).

Thanks for the info. I was afraid the "Browning" name wasn't what it used to be.

To be honest the last few brownings I have worked on the bps service dept has gone above and beyond to get me parts and usually for free. The Midas isn't a bad reel but like cts said I would stick with a reel that parts are more available for like Abu, shimano, daiwa or zebco.

I'm a old-timer, 63, and have lived and fished on the coast for 25yrs. I brought Garcia, C3s, 4500s, 5500s, and 6500s with me when I moved here. I service them every 2yrs and the still perform as if they were new. I've bought more and some different brands for some applications, but the the C3s are my go to reals for most applications. capt david

CaptDAvid. I fish the Sweden made Round Garcia Reels and have them all the way back to the 5500C's from the 70's and am really fond of them. The ones I mentioned above are not the same construction by no means

Most of mine are the swedish with palmning side plates. I also have 2 5500GRs which are graphite with a thumb bar. Also most have year date on the foot, which I believe means that they have a lifetime warantee. capt david
