I know this is in the wrong section but I am despirate for a job that allows a functional life. Hoping some fellow fisherman can lead me in the direction of a new career!

Im 24 years old and have been working in the oil field for about 3 years and I am tired of having no life and sleeping in hotel beds more than my own. I currently work for Coil Tubing Services and we are on the production side of drilling here in the Barnett and travel all across the state. I work 22 days in a row on call or on duty and 6 days off in a row. I'm tired of having one week off a month and would very much enjoy going home to my house and wonderful fiance everynight. I am a very hard working individual and not affraid to get dirty. I make sure to stay focused on work when I am at work. Although I do not have a degree I am willing to do any job that will provide for me. I have spent 4 years in the food industry as a bartender and server so I feel I have great customer service skills. My other jobs have been working at a gas refinery in DFW and also worked for a Pump company in Dallas that specialized in water and sewage bypass. I have good mechanical knowledge with a open mind to learning even more. At my current job all of our equipment is 18 wheelers that range in weight of 80,000lbs to 140,000lbs. Therefore I have my Class A CDL with hazmat and tanker endorsement and 2 years of driving experience.

What I am looking for is anything in the DFW area that has the ability for me to earn anywhere from 45-50k a year plus benefits starting and hopefully work Monday thru Friday most weeks but willing to work every other weekend if needed. My job now we average anywhere from 60-100 hrs per week so working 55-60 hrs and being home every weekend would be cake to me. I have a open mind to anything so please PM me if you have any work open for me! Hoping to find a long term career!!!

Thanks greatly
Jeff

Used to do the same thing as you worked for Cudd running coil tubing about 2 years. I was 23 when I got burned out of oilfield work. Good luck with a new career path. The first 6-10 months you'll want to go back for the money so make sure you get enough other reasons to stay out or you'll be back within a year.

+1 Although it might be tempting to cut and run, try not to do anything rash right now. Make shure if you make a move you have thought it out thouroughly, Things could get tuff in the petro-chemicle field in the near future, things look kind of iffy right now. Good luck.

I work for baker hughes, petrolite division. I love my job. You should look online at bakerhughes.com and see if there are any openings in the DFW area. Been there 5 years, and don't ever plan on leaving. I work M-F and am on call every other weekend.

Jeff I don't have a job for you and good luck to you on your search. 24 is still pretty young. I did not go back to school til I was 36 and got my Associates degree in xray. I work 16 hrs on Sat and 16 hrs on Sun and then have 5 days off. I was like you once working all the time never having enough time to do the things I really wanted to do like hunt and fish and when I did it was usually on the weekend when all the other normal people where doing it also. I got in a car wreck and hurt my knee and I ended up in the emergency room. Got some x-rays and got to talking to the x-ray tech and he started telling me his hours and it got me to thinking. So I went back to school and its great. I am not gettin rich but you can't put a price on free time. Anything in healthcare is usually 12 hour shifts . Full time is usually 3 12 hour shifts. Which means you got 4 days off. Hospitals usually pay weekend diffs of 2-5 dollars more for working the weekend shifts. Nursing, respiratory care, x-ray, ultrasound are all good fields. Some are 2 yr programs others are 1 year programs. I know at 24 your thinking 2 yrs !!! But its not very long at all and the benefits were worth it in the end for me. Just a thought.

People will only do to you what you allow them to do.

Marry an ugly rich girl...:) My Daddy told me that, said money can fix ugly...:)

I just got laid off from an E&P company so things are starting to tighten up a bit it would seem. Now mind you I was in IT, over 55, so I am the tail end of my career. But if I was to start out again I'd go for some kind of tech. engineering job. Find something in the energy field that will still need to be done regardless of the price of oil or gas. My second career field choice might be as hawki213 suggested, the medical area. That's going to always be there...'cause us old farts are gonna need that as we age and retire...:)

But regardless, enjoy your life as it unfolds, don't beat yourself up for your choices in careers, remember to laugh...makes'em nervous, and remember...nobody gets out alive...:)

I know it doesn't help in some ways but remember two things.
1) There are hundreds of people that would love to have your job. Any job is better than no job.
2) No job lasts forever. Change is inevitable.

I leave at 4:00am every Monday morning to drive 475 miles to Pascagoula to work for the week. I stay in a half-vacant apartment. I then drive back on Friday. Even so, it beats the @$#! out of wondering how I am going to pay my bills. No worrys; it won't last forever.

Be safe,
Rayzor

Look at the fire service. Most departments work 10 days a month (24 hour shift) and you should be able to trade shifts. They are hard to get on, so be persistant.

I toughed it out, working in the oil field does suck. Long hours , lots of travel but I stuck with it and it paid off.

I kept doing as best i could, always being noted for how well my projects went and i started moving up.

I advanced in my career nd have been in a more office type role for over 5 years now, but it took a long time to get there and looking back i'm glad i did.

Just something to think about, you might regret not sticking with it ten years from now when you are making less in a dead end job doing something else.

Look at the options for advancement in your company and ask yourself if this is a goal that would be worth while.

Agree with 90 5.0... One of my Son's used to work on the Drilling Rigs, always complaining about the hours and lack of social life... making 80K a year at 25 years old... He's got a social life now, but he also wishes he had it all back now!!!

Can't find a job that pays enough to make ends meet, so He is now training for Fire fighting and EMT. Eventually it will pay off... I hope.

I do agree that at least you are waiting to get another job before you quit this one. I honestly do wish you the very best in your search Jeff!

Might give FracTech a Call... They may have some openings that you can fill.
