Fished the Sabine with a couple of friends out of Tatum Tuesday, no luck at all. Water is running high and muddy. Couldn't even find 'em in creeks. Neches, however was much better. Fished it with one of the same guys from Tuesday and had double limit of sandies and one barndoor crappie in about 2.5 hours. Water was high and fast, we had to "four-wheel"it upstream (jumping logs and ducking limbs) to get to the fish. Found 'em in slack water near sandy areas.

Thanks for the report. What part of the Neches were you on? I've got 5 days off coming up and am trying to figure out which river I want to float and fish. I haven't floated the Neches yet. I know there is a sandbass run above Lake Palestine, was wandering if there was one below Palestine or maybe above Steinhagen further downstream.

Put in at the bridge at Chandler and went upstream from there.

Fished Sabine river Wednesday and there were multiple limits caught. Trick was to fish on the bottom. They wanted the bait almost dead. Once we figured that out we wore them out.

we caught them on the sabine way up in the creeks real good for the last 3 days but the water was dropping fast out into the river. At deadwood when the river is still high but the creeks are low I never have been able to figure out how to catch them in all that current. Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks for the Neches report. Haven't put in there since duck season, tried Kickapoo last week without much luck. I went up the Neches last year (not during the run). Did it *iss off the bank fishermen when you went up? I kind of want to try in the next few days but don't want a spinner thrown at my head.

Only saw bank fisherman close to the bridge. Had to jump a log about 300 yds north of the bridge and left one bank fisherman standing with his mouth open. Water was high enough that we didn't have much trouble with logs but the downed trees across the river were a pain. Found one we couldn't get past, need to take a chainsaw next time.

I dont personally see the point of using a boat at the Neches...it looks like it would be more trouble than its worth. Plus that river is pretty narrow, if your in a boat it seems like it would lessen your area to be able to cast. If you are able bodied I think walking would be much easier...just my

I don't usually try and go up the Neches, like you said it's pretty narrow. The only reason I would is to not be trespassing on private property by walking up, but I've never heard of the property owners making an issue of it there. I usually go down a little, when you get around a couple bends it opens up with some sheltered coves off the main channel.
We put in at the 315 ramp 9first bridge) and went up, nothing. Went and put in kickapoo, nothing. Caught one fish in 5 1/2 hours. Talked to some guys bank fishing right at dark and they said a few boats had come out with 50+ though.
