Anyone fishing Lake Hawkins in East Texas much anymore? After I went in the Navy in 85 haven't been there but a few times. Used to fish at night and catch some very nice bass. We would catch 6 to 8 lb fish consistenly and that was way back in the early 80's before the Florida strain was more pronounced in Texas waters. A 6 pounder was a wall hanger back then and 8 was a monster. Just curious.

I am just now starting to fish this lake and we havent done much yet. Pretty much all the area we have covered is is the cove above the bridge, which i believe is 2869. Anyway, the last time we went was last saturday and i caught one 14in bass on a hardnose frog and had a few bites on topwater. All and all we only got 2 hours of fishing in, due to the growing darkness. I would stay below that bridge, because it gets real mossy above it. I might head out there this saturday, if I do I will give you the report.

I lived in Hawkins for 6 years and fished Lake Hawkins regular. Fish the vegitation on both sides of the lake below the bridge and the big cove on the right facing down lake from the bridge. Use a 1/4 oz spinner bait with a single colorado blade and throw to the outer edges of the pads and let it flutter down, reel it by a stick-up and let it flutter down. Good stuff. Also, if you fish that end of the lake at night, it's neat when a duck disapears right before your eyes. A gator just had dinner.

Cool, thanks. Back when we fished it a lot just to give you an idea how long ago this was, we used solid black, and black with chartruese tail Tube Worms. Worked them at night over the grass and moss beds. Always stayed above the bridge in the main lake part. Last time we were there was around 1999. My Dad was fishing with his cousin, and a friend was with me. Dad caught a 50 lb. catfish on a Culprit Fire and Ice carolina rigged. My dad was 65, 6' and weighs about 110 and his cousin 70 years old, 5'4" and weighs a hundred pounds. Could here them all over the lake trying to land this fish.
