I own land adjoining a 27 acre, government built, soil conservation lake. Two creeks on my property feed the lake, I also own about 400 ft of shoreline. One other person owns the rest of the property around the lake. Do I have a legal right to fish from a boat on this lake. If so where can I find documentation to prove it. Any help would be appreciated. My family has owned this property for 40yrs and have not had a problem until recently.

I don't know where you can find info on it unless you just call a local Game warden.I will tell you about my experience with the same thing you are going through. I used to fish a 25 acre private lake and new the people that owned the land, on one side a older couple owned the intire shore line and on the other side a woman owned the entire shoreline. I had permission from both sides to go as I please until one year they sold about 2 acres on the back end where the main creek comes in to the lake. It was sold to a very cranky big time lawyer. There was a fence that went across the small area of the lake that he bought, and he would scream and holler every time we crossed over the fence area(the fence was under water for the most you could just see it coming out of the lake where his property started.)He would threaten to call the game warden on us for fishing in his part.We would yell back at him telling him he only owns the land and it is not possible to own the small portion of water on this lake.Keep in mind this was a very crooked lawyer that loved to nail people and he never did call the game warden on us. I do believe he checked the laws and saw there was nothing he could do about it.Now days that same lake has a housing development all the way around it because the land was sectioned off into 2 and 5 acres lots and sold I have access to one small area to launch my boat and can fish the entire lake just from getting permission from the small 2 acre section and nobody complains one bit about it.I believe if you have access to the lake as to not tresspass on his property you can fish anywhere you want to. Keep us posted if you find out for sure.

Thanks for the reply, I plan on going to TPWD Wednesday and asking them. Looking through the internet, it looks like the laws are different for each situation. I'll follow up next week if I find out anything.

By the way, my nephew pulled a 10lb'er out of the lake two weeks ago.
