Well I went to the lake this morning, the one in Missouri City, and made about 10 cast and left as I am nursing an injured left foot so its very painful walking at all. There are fish in there but getting to them is virtualy impossible as the water is 10-12ft below the shore line. You would definitely need a boat but since the lakes are in a city park there is no boating aloud.

The search for a decent and productive pond thats relatively close to the house is getting VERY VERY frustrating and virtually impossible to find!

I love fishing those ponds but hell there is the possiblity of getting arrested for tresspassing! I know this because I've been told by a golf course attendant at a course that has some SWEET ponds and he said thats what they do at his course, call the cops! eek

Also yes there is that golf course across from the lake I fished but it is gated hence the tresspassing. I love to fish but risking my tackle money on bail is not what I call a smart move. wink

He's a fly fisher guide but knows the Houston area very well. A single day of guiding by Mark will save you years of research on your own.
I will be calling him today or tomorrow thanks. I totally forgot about this option and I flyfish also laugh !

Let us know how the guided trip works out. I live in Houston, bass fish all the time, and also love to fly fish. If you catch the heck out of them with Mark, I may have to give him a call.

There are 2 ponds in Sugar Land, conveniently located close to one another. Driving soutwest on 59, you will notice a decent pond near the Texas Instruments building on the south side of the highway. On the same side of the highway less than a mile further down is another pond, located next to an office building of some sort. Actually, here are 2 ponds there (one you can fish, one you cannot). The Texas Instruments pond is more numbers than size. The other pond, however, has some HUGE bass in it. I caught several nice bass during the spawn, and fished for 2 fish well over 7lbs that I never could get to bite. They were hogs, though, and I could see them clearly.

The bite is tough at the pond with the bigger fish (second pond), but the size is pretty outstanding.

There is also the american canal that runs from the ponds on 59 south to just outside of alvin.
the canal has good bass in it. it starts just west of dulles. one good spot on the canal is were it crosses hwy 288, about one mile south of pearland. Its not private. Just walk the canal and throw spinner baits and buzz them just on top of the weeds that grow there....

texasmr2....I actually watched a fishing show once and the guy was talking about that exact same thing. So he went up to this door and knocked. An old man answered and he asked if he could fish his pond. The old told him there were 2 conditions 1) he didn't leave any trash, and 2) if he caught more than one he'd bring him some.
The guy gets out in the middle of the pond in his little row boat, gets a hit and reels in a 40 lb cat. Another 10 minutes and one that went about 30 lbs. After an hour and a half he had to row the boat to shore because the weight of the fish was starting to make his little boat sink!!
The only problem here is that alot of the area is farmland and most of the farmers don't even live on the property. I am still holding out hope that I can find one soon!!

Good luck and hopefully you will find a pond or lake soon. I am thinking about taking a weekend day and cruising the country looking for ponds.

I plan on getting up to my dad and brothers deer lease asap because there are 4 good ponds on them that always produce alot of fish.
