Coming into Abilene for a long weekend, just wondering if anyone's been doing any good out at the crappie house on Phantom. Times? Colors? or Minnows?

The crappie house is not producing from what I have heard. The water is down like 6-7 feet under the crappie house. I have been out there at least 3 times and not even a nibble. All the folks who have been out there when I have gone out there... same results. I heard it was for sale also. Lake Abilene in Buffalo Gap should be getting ready to turn on with all of this warm weather

thanks for the info. When the water's down like it sounds like it is, I've had good luck putting on a slip cork and casting out behind the fish house, where all the structure is still. Ya know, where the fish house used to sit before it broke off and they shortened the gang plank. Anyway, I'll put on a slip bobber and a few jigs and let it drop down 12-15 ft to the xmas trees down there and sometimes can pull em up pretty good out of there.

I may have to try the if I go back out there. I cleaned up last year on the east side of the lake in a few run offs from the main lake. I am going to try and get out next weekend myself. When are you headed down this way?

Yea the Crappie house was for sale but some good friends of mine bought the whole lot. They are fixing it up and are selling bait and pier is still in decent shape. Actually drove out there today and a guy had been out there for half hour or so and had caught 2 crappie. Its a matter of time before they all move in. The lake is really low was shocked to see at how low it actually was. How is the fishing at lake abilene? If yall need some company when yall head out let me know.

Glad to hear that someone bought it and is wanting to fix it up. The lake is very low. I sure hope it comes up some. Love fishing on Phantom. I haven't heard anything on Lake Abilene, but may venture out there soon. Welcome to the forum.

I spoke to one of the Wildlife Fishery guys on facebook and he said that they did their electrofishing survey to test the crappie population and they came up with quite a few over 2lbs. I fished there last spring/summer and caught some slabs from out there during the spawn. I am hoping that since the weather is warming up they will be getting shallow again. I did pretty good on a slip bobber and slab bandit set up. I talk to people all the time and they say they never fish there.

@Mister Fish, I'm here right now, for the weekend. Will go home Monday. Don't think I'll have time to fish, but might wiggle out some time Saturday morning. We'll see. Thanks for the intel, though!

Thanks for the update Mister Fish. I am still in search of that elusive 2 lb crappie.

Went out to Phantom this evening. Fished 18 inches down to 15 ft, including four or five deep brush piles and a few docks. Ended up with exactly one fish. Water was muddy everywhere, about 50 degrees.

Im going to try and get out on the water this weekend. Hopefully with all the warm weather we are supposed to have this week might do some good. I am going out to Lake Abilene

I heard there is another cold front coming in just in time for the weekend, lows in the 30s.

went monday water was muddy & 51 fished shallow to 18ft caught most fish from 8 to 10 feet , still slow fished from 1 p.m to 5p.m. 7 total, 3 keepers,still a couple of week away

Weather permitting I will be out at Lake Abilene saturday morning.
