I thought you had to pay $500 up front for the side imaging on the lowrance anyway. Am I wrong? The individual units are quite a bit cheaper too. I picked up a new HDS-5 and LSS-1 for just under $1000 OTD, which is right around what a 798 (the HB equivalent) will run you. And of course, that means that multiple SI/DI units are cheaper when you go the Lowrance route. Where did you get that price??? Per HB's website, the 898 and up SI units use this transducer. Unfortunately, I was wrong on the price. It's $270, not $250. http://store.humminbird.com/products/314029/XHS_9_HDSI_180_TSo just why exactly did you click on a thread for Humminbird ?? Just curious what it was about. I have a HB up front because I hadn't tried a Lowrance at the time. Looks like, from the discussion in the equipment area, that the announcement might be that HB is going to catch up with Lowrance's new Structure Scan technology. Suspicion is that maybe that was part of the deal in the lawsuit regarding Lowrance copying HB's SI technology. I wasn't trying to get into a pissing match. The guy asked what the transducer cost, so I was simply trying to answer his question along with a comment that I thought the price was ridiculous and that's one of the reasons why I switched to Lowrance when I wanted to get an SI/DI unit. I'll leave the thread alone now.

Google search light sonar.....been out for a while in bigger packages, looks like bird will make a run at making it cost effective and popular. They did a good job of both with side imaging.
