Does anyone know of any ponds with crappie, bass, or catfish for lease within an hour or 1 1/2 hours from Garland/Dallas area? I am a female and would like a safe and private place to fish.

I looked into it but decided there was enough free water to fish. There is a pond on their list near a place I go and it makes my mouth water eveytime I drive by it. Someone has bought into it because there are always a couple people fishing it from either the bank, a tube, or float pontoon.

I've also looked into GTBC several times and have talked to Derek, who runs it, a few times. Just haven't made the jump. At first, it seems expensive but factoring it out over a year, it seems like a pretty good deal to have access to all those lakes.

I've often thought JP and Derek need to get together and offer a special for TFF members. laugh

I tried out two of GTBC's locations in the Houston area, but eventually decided to pass. The first location was void of cover and structure, the second had a lot of vegetation, terrain, etc. and we did pretty well there.

But we did have some equipment problems. The jon boat wasn't where it was supposed to be, so I ended up having to walk about half a mile carrying a trolling motor and battery, put it in a boat which was in the water with ankle deep water around Thanksgiving (cold), drive the boat back to the original location where my friend was waiting, dump the water out, then pick him up.

The fishing was good, but this was one place where the fees were a little higher. It ended up being about $45/person for a half day...or $75 per person for a full day. It was close to Houston, but after about 10 or so trips, it was approaching the annual price of Danbury or one of the other fishing clubs in the area.

So the hassle of having to go through all that to get the boat in the water kind of left a bad taste in my mouth. Add to that the relative (compared to Dallas) dearth of fishing locations close to Houston and I decided to take a pass.

But if you've got your own smaller pond boat and trailer, and are looking to fish a few times a year on different locations, it's not a bad setup...especially if you are close to the metroplex.
