I've got to disagree with my buddy Jersey on this one. All of my fishing is done with 7-7'11" rods except for two instances. For Squarebill crankin' in tight quarters or for walking the dog type topwater baits, I prefer a 6'6". Kinda hard to walk the dog with your rod tip down if you're hurling it on a 7' 6" rod, which the majority of mine are.

Oh, and out of all my high-dollar rods, my favorite for this is an original 6-6 AllStar Zell Rowland Topwater Special.

6' 6" for smaller baits, like a Rico, where you are needing to be more accurate with your casts.

As long a rod as you want with big baits, like Sammies and Spooks, where distance is more important than accuracy.

What type of topwater? Frog, Buzzbait, Stickbait, Popper, Spook.....I don't use one for all types.

And greedily devour the treacherous bait.

depends on how tall you are. I use a 6'10" for my poppers (I'm 6'3") since I work it with my rod tip down (like stated above). some people walk the dog with their rod to the side (roland martin)...so then it wouldnt matter much....so unless you are really tall, I would go with a shorter rod.

I use 6'7 at lowest. I just make sure my rod is heavy action for sure.

I used to love that rod, but I snagged a carp and it snapped. Wish I could find another of the old version. that thing would sling a little bandit too.

I like a 6 1/2 footer for jerkbaits like a rougue and some small topwaters. Lots of times I am working a rougue around flooded cover and the shorter rod is easier to roll cast. I like a 7 footer for spooks and walking baits.
