Drove over both Neches & Kickapoo bridges this afternoon. Neches was muddy and flooded into the bushes north of the bridge. Kickapoo wasn't as muddy and appeared to be at "Normal" levels. It will probably remain up for a week or so and then go back to being a creek again. It needs the main lake to be at Pool level to keep it full. Not very many vehicles on the north side of Hwy 31 at Neches. Parking lot was full, however, I saw only one boat trailer. Kickapoo - many vehicles on both sides. Saw two fisherman launching a flatbottom from a truck & trailer angled down the steep road side east of the Kickapoo bridges on the north side. They had to back down in front of 70 mph traffic. Not the best plan.

I fished the Neches at 31 yesterday morning (20th) early. Tried the main channel but couldn't get back very far at all due to the high water. Ended up fishing the secondary channel near the billboard and caught 18 in 3 hours or so. Ended up being very busy right there due to it being one of the only accessible spots. I'm guessing by this weekend things will be in full swing.

No luck for me. Went up as far as a few hundred yards north of the RR tracks, caught 1 in 5 1/2 hours. I threw white, red, chartruse, with spinners, without, live minnows, everything.
May just be me though, when we were loading up at dark a guy on the bank said a couple boats had come out with "buckets full".
I don't know a lot about sandies, but I just think the actual run isn't on yet. Water isn't all that warm. The rivers were just so low for so long that when we got some rain and the flow picked up they got triggered. Then again, I may not know what I'm talking about, because some guys are catching fish....

Slow year for us, wife and I have been fishing here since 2003 and our best weeks are March 5-25, caught fish through Apr 21 with high water. Pretty much catch fish after every rain when it comes up. Lake is still 2.5 feet low. Been yaking mostly this year. Never tried Kickapoo....

Yup almost there. This AM: 1/3 kayaks, 1/3 small flatbottoms, 1/3 wade fisherman. Didn't catch any female sandys all small- med males with a few med crappies thrown in. If the watershed misses next week's predicted rains then that will be about it for the spawn on Kickapoo. Gilbo...all of your behind the brush spots are high & dry. For the most part, only kayaks can get to the RR tracks...currently.
