Anyone ever use 1/8 ounce rattle traps? Just picked up some red ones from Dicks, what tackle do you use with them?

I've used them in local ponds. I threw mine on a light spinning rig w/ 6lb test.

Would have to be light spinning gear, and a very shallow presentation.
I usually use 1/2 - 3/4oz.

Sometimes schooling fish get so zoned in on a certain size bait fish, and when the shad are small and they are pushing them, you can murder the bass with that little trap.
I use a Castaway skeleton medium cranking rod, daiwa crazy cranker and 10lb mono

Spinning gear, 6 or 8 lb test line. Never seen an 1/8 oz trap-is it alot smaller than 1/2 oz?

My PB, 9 lbs 12 oz, was on a 1/4 oz chrome with blue back. Hadn't even heard of 1/8 oz trps.

I throw a 1/4 oz trap on a Cara Weightless Worm rod w/a Curado E7, and 12 floro. The chrome w/blue back is a great combination.

Where have you guys been? The 1/8 oz trap has been around for years. Like the man said, when the bass key in on the threadfin shad, when they are that small, this little bait will kill them. I would throw it on a spinning outfit and 8 lb test. Give em a try!

I fished with a guide who took the rear treble hook off a 1/8 oz trap and replaced it with a very small spoon shaped spinner (he called it a rinky dink, but so far nobody else I've met has heard of it). The guide told me they crank this rig on Toledo Bend and bounce it off trees and rocks. We fished it similar to a drop shot rig and beat up both white and LMB near a dam. More recently, I cast it out, let it sink until it's straight below the end of my rod tip and then fish it like a drop shot before casting again. It usually gets hit when it's falling.
That's the value of fishing and learning from a guide... I sure wouldn't have come up with that idea on my own.
Good fishing!
