I recently found a 21 ft Xpress with a 225 for sale. I have a Skeeter ZX190 with Yamaha 150. This Xpress boat was 15000 and had an Evinurude, which I don't prefer, but I got to thinking about a new one with a Yamaha 4 stroke on it.I don't travel for big tournaments and only fish a few local opens and club tournaments, and will be retiring soon.(I'm getting old) Am I crazy to consider a big aluminum boat instead of a mid size glass? Does anyone know how a boat like this would ride and perform? I want a relatively smooth ride and not get blown all over the water.

My girlfriends uncle has only owned 21 foot Xpress boats for the past 10 years or so.I have fished with him many times and still think the front deck is one of the biggest on the market. He gets a new one every year with his sponsor deal and his current rig has the evinrude etec 250 and has impressive speed and handling for an aluminum boat.I dont think it turns as good as a fiberglass boat it has more of a slide. And just like most aluminum boats is still like having a sail on your boat when the wind is blowing. But over all it is a good fishing platform and dont have to worry about chipping fiberglass.

I had the X19 with a 200 yamaha on it and it rode fairly well! I now have a Triton TR20 and still miss the Xpress from time to time....especially in the timber on roberts.

I have a G3......I love it. Its really fast and super efficient, gets into shallow water, and I barely even know I'm towing it most of the time.
All that said when the wind picks up it becomes a challenge. It sits higher in the water than a glass boat and with the light weight the wind pushes it very easily. It's also not the smoothest ride in rough water.
As much as I love it my next boat will be glass. I fish a lot of river lakes with alot of shallow rock and if I can afford it I will probably keep the aluminum even after buying a new glass boat.

My last boat was a 21ft sea ark w/150 johonson. Anything more than 20 MPH wind, and you probably want to stay off the lake. They are great for shallow water, and they dont chip like fiberglass, but the do get stress cracks, so check it over good. I have a 21ft fiberglass now, and would never go back. Just my opinion.
