So we have the house booked and it's time to start the count down. I'm looking for any info you guys/gals would like to share. I fish matagorda a lot just have never this area. I wanna do it all fish the surf, jetty, San Luis pass. I would really appriciate any tips or spots that are fishable. Not looking for anyones special spot, unless your want to share (pm me).

Also will be doing a guided trip one day (bay) so if anyone knows a good guide in that area shoot me his info as well. Would prob need 2 boats. Thanks!

Surf is great if the water and wave conditions are right. Christmas Bay is beautiful and I have caught some nice trout and a few reds there out of a kayak. Never had much luck at San Luis Pass. Best tip I can offer is a Surfside restaurant - the Red Snapper Inn. Go for lunch and get the fish PoBoy made with red snapper and an order of fried crab claws. Good stuff!

Yep, what he said +1. Red Snapper Inn is a great place to eat.

Surf is good if the waves aren't too big and the water isn't too muddy.

Wading Christmas Bay can be really good. So can fishing the jetty, but same rules for the surf, not too rough or muddy.

If the surf is too rough, there are several places to fish in the intercoastal and the bay.

I love it down there and caught many fish in and around Surfside.

Head NE on Blue Water highway and go about 10 miles. You will see condos on the right near the beach. A road leads to the left into a little group of homes. Ernie's bait camp used to be there. That is Christmas Bay. Great place to put in a kayak. There are several dirt roads that lead to Christmas and drum bays along Bluewater highway. You can wade in from there. Watch out for rattlesnakes, mosquitos, stingrays, and hootleheads that break into your truck while your out wading.

I'm thinking the house we rented is right next to this road you are talking about. Looking at google it shows a road like that, but that is out of date and I'm sure it has changed since that image was taken.

A few more non-fishing tips, all in Lake Jackson which is about 10 miles inland from Surfside. Two good restaurants: 1) Cajun Greek and 2) a German restaurant (can't remember the name) located in the center of town on This-A-Way or That-A-Way street. The latter has a big selection of Euro beers. Finally, the Texas Fisheries Center in Lake Jackson is worth a visit - good aquarium and the art work on exhibit by John Cowan and other wildlife artists is interesting too. Oh yeah, and it's free.

We are down about once a month. Also stayed at a house owned by Twin Sisters next to Ernies rd.

Used Kayak to fish Christmas. There is an old pier east of there we call the China Mans pier. Lots of good fish in that area.

On the beach side just pick a spot and go for it. We use kayaks to get big baits past the 3rd bar. At night you can catch decent shark using casted baits. To me night fishing on the beach is the best for sharks over 6'.

If ya get bored catch a mess of blue crabs and have a crab/shrimp boil.

Also fresh whiting on the grill rolled up in flour tortillias with your favorite condiment is great.

Ive never really liked SLP that much. Lots of current and has a reputation of low lifes hanging around.

I have never seen any form of law enforcement in the area other than Coast Guard flying over so situational awareness is a must.

Red Snapper Inn is one of the few spots I have ever found that can serve whole grilled or broiled flounder.

And that is some good stuff.

There is an Ice House just over the bridge on the left as you head away from the beach that is awesome too.

That pier in Christmas bay is called Chun's pier. He was a white guy. I fished there a couple of weeks ago and caught 8 nice trout.

Surfside Beach and surrounding areas are nice. If ya can find fishable waters with the presence of bait you should be able to hook up.
