Went by the pond in Carrollton next to the baseball fields and found that it was drained by about six or seven feet to repair the walls. Pretty interesting to see some of the junk down there. Took some pictures for reference later. Does anyone know what happened to the fish there? There is some water left and a lot of seagulls but didn't see any fish activity in that shallow water.

I went by there a couple weeks ago. They are repairing the walls. I use to fish that pond like 10 years ago. All I remember being in there was perch, and a few small bass.

That's pretty interesting. Going to post the pictures? Or just keep them for personal reference. I'd be interested to see them if you're sharing, if not, not a problem.
I know of a few ponds in the Carrollton area, but I don't think I've seen that one. Maybe there's some water left that's deeper then it looks, and all the fish are hiding in there?
See any dead fish? Bass, cats, carp, or otherwise? If you don't see any or many dead ones, probably a good sign.
I've seen a few really nice bass in some Carrollton ponds, but I usually go there for the carp, lots of them, some over 20, and they're usually pretty underfished. Hope if there were any nice fish of any species in this pond that they moved or are surviving in the deeper water.

I'll post them tonite if you are interested. I only fish for bluegills there and hold close to the deck in there. Didn't see any dead fish but the seagulls were diving for something. I scanned that pond when it was full using my SmartCast fish finder and didn't see anything more than about 9' so I'm pretty sure there isn't more than about 2' of water left in there now. It was a good pond to take my kids fishing for bluegills and I've seen a guy pulling bass out of there fishing with cheese but haven't seen any carps or cats. As far as structures, the bottom is pretty bare except for a few rusted out 55 gallon drums and some concrete trash cans. Probably a total of about seven visible structures at this time.
On an unrelated note, the pond just east of there, behind the new library, is our new pond for bluegills. I've seen some decent cats pullet out of there but they have big heads. I've also seen some small bass, maybe 10". In the last few weeks, I've also seen people pulling out trouts from there. Bluegills are very good later on from the main pier but right now they are holding very close to the bottom.

Sure, post away, I'm always interested to see bottom structure of ponds and things, even if I've never fished there, lol. You saw a guy catching bass on cheese? That's bizarre. Seems more likely to get cats. Two feet of water is enough to bluegill to stay alive as long as they don't use up all the oxygen, if it rains anyway that will help them survive longer too.
You say the pond behind the "new" library? Is that the Library off of Webb Chapel? Or a different Library.
Big headed catfish are probably either underfed, or just Bullhead lol. Bullhead are a seperate species of catfish they don't get very big, and usually have large heads and beady eyes lol.

yeah, the guys was fishing for bass with velveeta cheese. The new library pond is at the SW corner of Josey and Keller Springs in Carrollton. The baseball fields are just west of there. It's a fairly old pond and it used to be a landing spot for some protected birds. I remember a the city got in trouble a few years back when they started cleaning it up. here is a picture of the library pond: In fact, you can see some of the library construction on the W of the pond. The N side is very shallow and has a lot of weeds. It has a couple of very nice low decks that would be great to fish but it's chocked full of weeds and vey shallow. Right behind the library and the Senior center there is a nice deck with rails and benches. My kids like to fish for bluegills there. We did good last summer and picked up 50 at a time to relocate them to other ponds. The cats I have seen there looked like flatheads as far as the skin but had heads that went almost half their size. Reminded me of some big head salt water fish we had back home.

Love those DFWMaps pictures: This picture is a close up of the picture that started this thread. The west side is very shallow and pretty much dry now. The remaining water is mostly on the east side, to the right of the dock.

F4B, I'm guessing you meant the one by the library. I saw a cat pulled from there in early December. A friend pulled one out about three weeks ago and caught a few trouts. I tried two weeks ago but caught nothing. We were trying for cats and trouts.
Could mark fish on the SmartCast but they didn't stay around long.

Steve, 15 pound carp out of that little pond? Very nice! You might want to go and check on the pond, as I'm sure you know, catfish and carp can survive in much muddier, much shallower and less oxygenated water then most other fish, so even if the bass/bluegill are dying the others might survive especially with recent rain. While it's shallow they may be too stressed out to feed, or, they may be feeding heavily, I'd recommend trying it out. Those 15 pound carp may be near 20 now!
When I lived in San Angelo, there was a tiny little pond I used to see all the time, it has a name but I've forgotten it now. It was in the middle of town, right off one of the main roads, formed by one of the drainage ditches that had water most of the year. Well, the last year I lived there, it ended up totally drying up. I never thought it had much in it cause never saw anyone fishing there. It was only about 3 feet deep, but sadly, turned out to be full of small catfish and some nice carp. Saw quite a few dead carp, some of which were probably over 10 pounds if not a lot more. Pretty sad to see everything die without even knowing they'd been any fish in it at all. We did saw one huge snapping turtle, got him in a cooler and took him to a river, he was roasting in the sun.

Sounds like good carp bait. Hope the fish are still in there! If not there are a lot of other ponds in the Plano/carrollton area that are good for carp. Have you ever fished Bob Woodruff lake? It's in plano, I've not fished it, but I've heard it has some good carp in it.
