I got a bit excited today as I came to Overlook Park towards the dam and noticed some boats out in the water near the Island. Turns out it was the Washington County EMS doing some training with canoes.
This past Tuesday I had a friend, fishing with another buddy, catching WB from the bank at Big Creek. In 3hrs they had 26 WB and 2 keeper Hybrids. Fishing with Ghost minnows.
There is still tons of silt out there. Also, saw one empty boat trailer that unloaded from Overlook in the parking lot.

On Thursday at noon I took a photo of four white bass that were caught at Irwin Bridge, that photo is on the Birch Creek Facebook page. One of the four was a female that had some eggs, but a long way from the spawn. (Forgot how to post them on here)
These are lake bass that have made their way to Irwin, with more rain forecast the lake should rise more in the coming days. This run should really get going over the coming weeks if not going now. The gate at Newman's Bottom is closed at this time with the rain falling now are more expected, they evaluate that road daily.
I think those holes around Newman's might be full of white bass if they are as high up as Irwin's. We need fishytx, hls, Raider, Jasin, to give it a try. These guys know that creek better than anyone I know, if the bass are in the creek in numbers these guys will show us the way.
The water is cold and muddy now but I think we could have a really nice run starting in the next few days, good luck.

Interesting, bass related. Thanks for the post. It may be another week or so before the creek is fishable with all the rain we're getting this weekend.

It will take a while for the creek to clear up. Lexington received 3.7 inches of rain last night. Here in Rockdale we received a little over 2 inches. So the creek may get out of its banks once again. Lets hope so. But with each rain we receive, the chances of a good run are looking much more promising.
I know everything that feel in our area ran off due to saturated grounds. So this past rain fall could be the magic ticket that we have all been waiting for.
( SIDE NOTE ) If you do chose to go down there early while the water is still kind a muddy, then I would throw some chartreuse colored road runners. All so use extream caution on the slippery banks.
Tight lines everyone: Doug

From what I saw this afternoon on a tour around the lake no one has any business getting near any of those creeks.. Cedar was over the road and up out of its banks, Yegua was still rising and Nails was crazy full. The lake is rising fast and might make it back to pool level sooner then later.. good news for sure..
Would any of you guys be interested in having a "creek fishing & Kayaking clinic" at Nails Creek State Park? I can probably get something going pretty quick like the second Saturday in March. My intention is to start a Somerville Hunt & Fish Club headquartered in the State park to educate and involve hunters and fishermen in the park and programs. So many of the projects the state park hosts need volunteers and we hunters and fishermen are the best choice for many of the tasks. Most of what I've learned about life is from being outdoors and that is getting lost in modern life for the average American and that is a shame..

Yes, I would be interested in such a clinic. I am not a Kayak guy (and my Pontoon boat wont do so well in the creeks) but I do enjoy fishing and learning..
