i am always doing research on different techniques, and was doing some on jig fishing.i was watching a video that featured a pro who is probably one of the most dominating fisherman in b.a.s.s history. he therorizes most lures and jigs are struck head first which i think most fisherman believe. he states that when a bass takes a jig into his mouth, and we set the hook we must turn the jig while inside the mouth at least 90 to 180 degrees to turn the hook for penetration. i could see this if a trailer is not being used or if using a grubtype trailer. my question? if using a trailer such as craw or pork type i would think the fish would take the jig tail first since the claws would be representing the front of a crawfish, therefore not having to turn the jig 90 to 180 degrees for hook penetration whats y'alls thoughts?.... side note i didn't give the pros name, i want everyones own thoughts and not well if ole so an so said it,( it must be true) .....after replys and thread has slowed, i will name the pro. sorry for long read.

I've seen alot of video of bass hitting a crankbait or jerkbait from behind or from the side. I don't think the bass cares to much about its angle of attack, it just wants to eat it smile.

Ive done some sight fishing at the big blue and from my observation a fish inhales the bait and starts to digest immediately unless its sensories tell it it is not food...then spits it out...regardless just set the hook....theres too much thinking going on here....

Fish dont think about that, unless their being finicky. Most of the time I use jigs for finesse bass anyways so this question kinda hits home. That being said, to rotate the lure to that point i'd go with a sweeping side arm hookset. The jighead, assuming the bass takes the lure from the back end, will then push up against the bass' jaws and be forced to either pop out or rotate....its simple physics and motion going on here. You'll either get a hookset or miss, but isn't that true with any lure? It all comes down to that...
