and YANKEE.....anyone North of the Red River....... Due to infiltration of the Dallas/ Ft. Worth area, the border between the South and yankees has been moved to IH-10. Anything north of IH-10 is now considered yankee land.

Anybody else grow up hearin a drum called a Gasper Goo ? That's Cajun for "BIG UGLY" (Gaspergou)-Up north those Yankees call em' "SHEEPHEAD". My Pops used to call Bass "Green Trout" haha.... It's not Boiled Shrimp, Crabs, or Crawfish in my family...It's Bald... Your Pops is a True Cajun if he called largemouths "Green Trout". I'm sure he also called Crappie Sac-A-Lait. I've always heard "goo", "goofish" and Gaspergou referencing the freshwater drum.

No way. They are two entirely separate fish who do not even look alike. The Perch is a cold water fish found in the northern United States. The Bluegill is adapted to both northern and southern waters and is often found together with Perch up north.

and YANKEE.....anyone North of the Red River....... To foreigners, a Yankee is an American. To Americans, a Yankee is a Northerner. To Northerners, a Yankee is an Easterner. To Easterners, a Yankee is a New Englander. To New Englanders, a Yankee is a Vermonter. And in Vermont, a Yankee is somebody who eats pie for breakfast.

Nope, there is still a small strip of land between Lake Corpus Christi and IH=10 that is still God's country. It would be a tough choice between yankees and mexicans though.

I believe the reason that bluegill/other sunfish are called perch is because of the Order they come from which is Perciformes which means perch-like, which the Yellow Perch is also a momber.
Yellow Perch are however from the Percidae family (along with darters and such) as opposed to Sunfish belonging to the Centarchidae family. (which also include largemouth bass and crappie).
So I'm not really sure if calling bluegills, etc perch would really be all that far off the mark.

Like the Cajun said, I was raised way up north .... 'round Shreveport.
In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

For me perch is what got me. up north theres the yellow perch so i always called "perch" sunfish or bluegill. calling a Sunfish a Perch is just ignorance. It is exactly the same as calling a Crappie a Bass. Any fisherman ought to know the difference. Up north they call them perch, down here we call them bream. Who's more ignorant? In both cases most fish identified as a bream or a perch is actually neither.
