Was wondering if anyone has done this or knows some one who has. Looking for some opinions to the advantages and disadvantages. Thanks.

Also, you will have big gaps between your lids.

I would think it may be slick as well when it's wet...

The answer is don't do it in black unless you never fish in the sunlight. Consider other materials if you have to have a non-carpet solution, but if there were really a better solution the newest boats on the market would use it. Consider resale value also... you may like some new fangled surface but other anglers will be looking for carpet.

Carpet is fast, cheap, looks good and if you're a DIY kinda guy, you can do it a little at a time if you don't mind the look.

Tips
1.Visit Youtube.com for tutorials.

2.Use your old carpet as template to cut out your new pieces so avoid tearing it up if you can.

3.Don't use an overly heave carpet cement to put it down, contact cement, and small roller works extremely well.

4.Use dowel material to keep the glued surfaces apart until you start to work them down. (when using contact cement you put the glue on both surfaces, let it dry, then work it down removing the dowels one by one that separate the carpet from the surface this lets you adjust as you go along)

5. Take the time to remove your deck lids, it will make the job 10X easier when you are working on a bench and not on your back. Also if its time to replace the carpet, those deck lid hinges and hinge attachment points probably needs some attention to.

Good Luck,

Steve

I fished out of boat that had some type of spray on stuff on the floors. It wasn't exactly like bedliner, but similar. Wasn't slick at all but it felt hard under your feet. I prefer the padding myself.

I think it would be a good idea for the bottom of your boat. Like the floor of your console, get some tan or white (or whatever color matches your boat). I know the floor at the console is what gets the wettest when it dews outside. It would be easy to clean, plus if you ever wanted to, you could throw some carpet over it fairly easily.

Well, depends on how big of a boat and what kind. But I know that spray in bed liner sure lasts a long time, and carpet does eventually wear out.

I'm with ya on that, I don't understand why manufacturers haven't done something similar already. Most of my carpet wear is in the console area and most of the stains are there as well. Plus like you mentioned the moisture collects there and keeps the carpet damp while it's covered.

I like the easy to clean idea of it. Was thinking if I did it going dove grey with yellow flake in it to match boat. In my mind I think it would look good. Might not be worth burning up in the summer though.
