Are there any tricks or advice anyone can give for keeping crawfish alive for several days (or longer)?

I used to catch crafish as a kid and keep the alive for a couple weeks just by putting them in a bucket with shallow water and give them a lettuce leaf to eat now and then, and change the water some.

I've kept them alive for weeks in an old cooler that is tilted on one end. Put just enought water in the cooler to cover the bottom, tilt it up so the water runs to one side. Get some sweetgum leaves and put in the bottom. Toss a dead perch or a hot dog in for food. Works great for me.
Yes you can trust the Government, just ask the Indians.

Crawdads have gills, so you need to aerate the water. If you don't feed them, they'll eat each other. Thats about it. I've kept them alive in a cooler for weeks at a time. I think they eat both animal and vegetable matter, but don't like decayed matter. Also decaying matter may burn up the oxeygen in the water.

Get some sweetgum leaves and put in the bottom. Toss a dead perch or a hot dog in for food. Works great for me. I've used both of these methods and they work as long as you keep clean water in the container. To catch them I use an umbrella minnow net and tie a piece of bacon on the wire brace so it hangs just off the net. Throw it out in a drainage ditch or small pond and leave it for 10-15 minutes. Once you start pulling it in, don't stop or they will fall out. Also make sure there are no jagged rocks or sticks. The net will get hung on them easily. Usually only takes a couple of sets and you will have 2-3 dozen crawdads if they are in the area you set the net.

My grandpa kept crawfish in a washing machine tub,he put in fresh cut carpet grass, and some food like a perch every day or so.he just kept them in a cool spot under a shed porch, and sprayed 'em down with water a couple times a day.
