I'm looking for some guidance. I'm ready to install a trolling motor tray and research has found several options. EX Troll, Troll Eze, Stone River, Comfortroll, Troll Well to just name a few. Prices range from $80 - $150.

Some are plastic, fiberglass and aluminum. Some are square - some are have rounded bases. I haven't heard anything negative about any of them - so I'm ready to hear your positives.

What did you install and WHY that model?

I have a 20 foot Skeeter and used comfort troll. Worked great, and was easy to install. Have had it in for three years now with no problem. Remember measure twice and cut once.

I found the tray dimensions on line, and had it custom made at a sheet metal shop. 16 gauge galvanized metal,welded up with flange out on top, cut the hole in the deck and dropped in,screwed down, size will fit either MK or MG foot pedal. Best thing I did to have a comfortable days fishing.

I've got the Eze Troll Tray, I think? It's the plastic one. It's ok, but not great. I'm a big guy, like 240. After installing mine I noticed that it flexes some. Well, a lot. So, since the hole was already cut I had to improvise. I ended up building up a little structure underneath it with some 2x4's, plywood, and some liquid nails. Flex is gone now and I feel comfortable with it.

If I was to do all over again, I'd spend a little more and get one of the other brand's that's made with heavy guage metal. It would have been a lot less work for me.

It works fine and as advertised, so it's not really their fault. I know I need a diet, LOL, but I know I'm not the only guy on the water that has had a few too many pieces of apple pie .

So if you're a bigger fella, get a metal one.

How do you guys figure the positioning of the tray? Obviously in the center (left/right) but how far forward or back? That's really my only hold up at this point from putting one in my boat...

After I get my unit I'll position it and see how it looks. But I assume that I'll want my foot control as close to its current spot as possible considering thats what I'm use to.

no you will want if as far front as you can get it, not what you are used to. Your front pedistal will have a wood base, so the further you have it back the more you will cut into that. Remove the upper panel take pictures with cameron the hole. measure, measure, measure, measure,measure, measure, measure, measure,measure, measure, measure, measure, and then remeasure. pull out the storage box and it will help some.

I had The Tackle SMith install mine, as far it being a fiberglass one, I dont have the FLEX, the Ranger has alot of foam in it and it took em awhile to get it out to install it. They did it in a couple of hours.

Dont know what boat you are putting it in, but you want it as far forward as you can get it and you may even cut into your rod tubes if you have them. So take the rods out first.

I installed mine on my 97ranger,r70, I took off were access panel were the trolling plug is and had access thru there, and layed out the cut 1" back from there, then cut the deck out, dug out all the foam, and dropped in. The front live well splash pan goes under the tray, the tray has a drain and will drip into the live well. When I did the research on the tray, the instruction said it would not work on this boat, well it will fit this size ranger, I had mine custom made from 16 gauge galvanized, welded up and is solid, works for both MK,MG. took me a couple of hours to cut and dig out the foam and install, but it makes a comfortable days fishing.
