I do believe you could find better around Austin, but if you just want to just get out for a while with no jetskis, you can catch some bass there. Otherwise head to Lake Austin or Lake Travis. Good Luck!

Check out some of the lake info that has been posted at Lone Star Lakes around the Austin area. This might be of some help.

This time last year we had all kinds of luck closer to the hot-water discharge. Our best days were early cold mornings because the discharge would be generating more than in the warmer afternoons when people would turn their heaters off. The dam fishing the rip rap is also a great spot to find some fish.

Walter E. Long or (Decker) is a good lake. I have cought some good size LMBs there. My best out there has been around 8# with a diving crank bait in the cove to the left of the Dam. You can catch some nice fish out there, and without the jet skies and stuff. Good Luck, Emmett

And if the lake is low, be careful at the ramp. Be sure to trip up, I dinged my prop there pretty bad when it was low.

I have heard a lot about flipping into the reeds, but I tried that once and almost drowned.
Seriously, the reeds are ok, but back out about 10 feet and fish the edge of the grass.

Good ol trusty crome rattle trap will get the job done if nothing else will! When Decker is on it's awesome but I have zeroed more than I would like to admit. I would try Bastrop for spawners before Decker. @ Decker hold on to you rod nice and tight in case one of those dang Hybrids decides to bit!
Simplify!

You are in austin, you gotta go Carpin'. Hit town lake with a can of sweet corn, a size 6 circle hook and a light drag. You'll be in the rough fish section in no time.

The best fishing at Decker is around the water outlet but only when the plant is running, which it hasnt been for a while. Other than that I would recommend shallow crankbaits, stickbaits, and rattle traps about 10-20' off of the reeds in the coves. Also when its hot buzz-baits and spinners will usually get you some action. Usually in the summer I fish around the inlet.

Haven't been on Decker in years but don't let em scare you off it. I used to live nearby and it holds some nice fish. Like many lakes in this area it can have it's good days and bad. In the spring (early spring) I used to have the best luck throwing spinners right up against the bank on the North end of the lake. It was amazing how tight they would hold to the bank. Caught some nice fish flip'n in the cattails also. When you hook a big fish with just a few feet of line out it is GAME ON!
Good luck!
