I really like the Redfish. It tracks well for its size and is good in rough water. The new heritage kayaks at Academy have an improved front hatch (no more tupperware lid) and a molded rear area for a 5 gallon bucket (I'm thinking circulating tank for live bait if that's your thing). I've fished both the new and the old and I prefer the old. It is also wider than some of the older Heritage boats. Won't be lightning fast but still not like paddling a tank. At $449 it's a great boat. You are going to want to upgrade the seat however. Molded seats and weaker back support makes for a long day especially in the wind.

my heritage redfish 12 is a great kayak. Mine isnt the academy version though. I paid $600 for it brand new and I thought that was a great deal sine it was $750 new.

The Heritage will be more stable than the Pescador and it comes with a flat floor for standing. I'm disappointed to see that they fitted a smaller front hatch on the Academy version. The Redfish 12 would be the my choice in the Redfish line.

Id prefer a 14' for extra handling. Other than the high gunnels n small front hatch, there's nothing wrong with the Heritage Redfish Kayak. Lot a bang for the buck IMO.
